C8: Fuming Alice
That day went by, and watching Alice train with him was a bit excruciating.
Raine would occasionally frown, pout, or look sad. The warriors did not help either, as they cheered them on and paired them together.
Once they were done training, Alice left with Maya, leaving Raine behind.
Raphael joined her, his eyes studying her sulking face.
“What is the problem?” he asked softly, holding her hand, but Raine shook her head.
How could she tell him she was filled with jealousy? Instead, she pecked him, shocking both of them.
Raphael blinked twice, his lips slightly parted before they curved into a smile.
“Seems like my feelings are mutual,” he said playfully.
Raine looked away as her face suddenly turned red. She did not know what pushed her to do that, but she just wanted to secure him.
“I... that was a mistake,” she stuttered, closing her eyes and wishing she could disappear because of the intense gaze she received in return.
“Really? Don't you feel the same way I do? The intense pull whenever we are together?” Raphael asked as he moved closer and turned fully toward her.
Raine blinked but slowly nodded shyly.
He chuckled and cupped her cheeks softly, his gray eyes fixed on her brown ones as he leaned in.
Raine blinked, her heart racing. She could hear its beat clearly.
She gasped when Raphael kissed her but still gave in to the intense feeling.
Meanwhile, Alice dragged Maya to a corner, her eyes scanning the area to make sure no one was around.
“Have you gotten what I asked for?” she asked in a low tone.
Maya sighed.
“You don't have to be so careful. I have seen the book. You just have to tell me when you need it so I can get it,” she said proudly.
Alice frowned.
“So the book is not with you? Then what use is that? Still, you did well” she said arrogantly.
Maya pressed her lips together but still smiled. She knew it was not easy to please her.
“Is he a lycan?” Alice asked carefully, Maya nods her head.
“He is half lycan, his mother is said to be a lycan, but she left him and his father the former beta for a long while before he died” Maya narrated proudly, she was sure Alice would be pleased this time.
“I see…” the latter replied thoughtfully, it simply meant he wasn't a normal wolf.
‘no wonder father would want him to succeed him’.
Alice stood silently for a moment before a cruel smile appeared on her face. She dismissed Maya and returned to the inner training ground.
She froze at the sight before her.
She clenched her fists as she watched them kiss.
The way Raphael held Raine by the back with his left hand and kissed her deeply.
The way Raine shivered, her eyes tightly shut.
Alice felt her chest tighten as she watched them. She was not the only one watching.
A few trainees had also noticed.
“Wow, this has been going on and we didn't know,” one of them said in surprise.
“I'm surprised. I thought Raphael would end up with the Alpha's second daughter,” another said.
“He is only training her, but I heard Raine saved him. Besides, they have been close for a while now. It is just a pity they are not a powerful pair,” a third one added.
“That is none of my business. Look at the way they are kissing, it is intense,” the first one said, fanning herself.
Alice burned with anger as she walked toward them.
“How dare you say such things?” she snapped, startling the trainees who had not noticed her earlier.
“Scram!” She ordered angrily.
They quickly apologized and ran off, not wanting to face her anger. Her presence alone made them uncomfortable.
She did not bother to look at Raphael and Raine again. She left the training ground and went home, leaving Raine behind.
Back at the training ground, Raphael slowly pulled away from the kiss. His eyes were filled with emotion as he looked at her flushed face.
He gently brushed her lips while holding her so she would not look away.
“I truly love you,” he whispered softly.
Raine stared at him for a moment before a soft smile formed on her lips.
She suddenly looked around.
“Alice, where is she?” she murmured, biting her lip.
Alex walked toward them.
“Whoa, Raph, you didn't tell me this was going on,” he said, lightly hitting Raphael's arm.
Raine looked away, her face still flushed. She forced herself to look up.
“Did you see Alice?” she asked, trying to sound normal.
“Oh, your sister? She left, and trust me, she looked like she was ready to cause trouble,” he replied dramatically.
Raine stood up immediately.
“I have to go home now. It is already late,” she said hurriedly, her hands fidgeting, but Raphael held her hand, stopping her.
Alex watched them for a moment before leaving them alone.
“Why are you so tense?” Raphael asked softly as he stood up.
“If you are worried about your sister telling the Alpha, then we have no problem. I have already decided to make my feelings for you known to him. I can go with you,” he assured her.
But Raine shook her head.
She trusted him, but that was not the issue.
She knew her parents. They would not hesitate to punish her if that was what Alice wanted.
“I have to go home and explain things myself. You don't need to come with me right now. It is not the right time,” she insisted.
She did not want him to see how she was treated, even though it was already obvious.
Raphael clenched his jaw slightly, his eyes fixed on her. He knew she did not want him to come.
“Alright, but remember that I am here for you at all times,” he said softly.
Raine looked up at him, her heart lifting.
She finally had someone who would stand by her and defend her.
“Thank you,” she whispered as she hugged him tightly, as if he were her anchor… he was right now.
After a while, she slowly pulled away and left, ready to face whatever awaited her at home.
