CHAPTER 8

"Go, just cry it out," I calmly said while caressing her hair. I am in front of her while she's crying out loud in front of the dead body of her grandma.   Few minutes passed but still, she is not talking even if I ask her what she wanna eat. At that point, she just cried repeatedly. She didn't stop crying since I got here. If I could only feel what she is feeling right now.   Then suddenly, she hugged me very tight. I am in complete shock, but I managed to hug her too. I hope I am doing this in the right way. I held, and I dragged her head on my chest, patting her back.   "Everything will be fine, Vielka. I am here."   "H-how? M-my grandma just died," she stuttered, and she broke into tears. I didn't know what to do anymore for me to comfort her. She even knelt down, maybe because she just can't believe what was happened a while ago.   "I'm sorry for your loss, Vielka," I helped her to stand up and asked her to go with me to our classroom. Fortunately, she agreed. I told the nurses to do the rest to settle Vielka's grandma.   While we were walking, she slowly wiped away her tears. I explained to her what she must do right now. She's a clever girl but for now, I don't think she could process her thoughts effectively.   When we arrived, Vielka explained everything to the class. She was in sorrow by just looking at her eyes.   Our teacher agreed to send her home, and he asked me to help her on her way home. The teacher did not continue the lesson and asked everyone to come with us to Vielka's house and give their dearest comforts.   For others, this is a free day, but for Vielka, it will absolutely be a day full of mourning. I gestured Clyde and Lawrence to come over me.   "Is that true?" Lawrence asked, and I nodded. I told him to talk to Vielka directly.   "What should I do? I mean, I don't know how to comfort her," I asked Clyde. Clyde is always that concerned with everyone, so I know he knows how to comfort everybody.   "Just don't leave her dude," he answered while tapping my shoulder, and I nodded.   Our classmates left whispering. Her friends also left the classroom after they talked to Vielka. Vielka is so devastated. Everything was so sudden.   I can't feel how painful it is, but I will strive to always be at her side. I won't let her suffer. I will make her feel that I am still here to guide and help her.   "I need to go home first. Thank you so much, Zach. Thank you," she said with a smile, but I could still see her eyes full of sorrow.   "Clyde, send her home, please," I told Clyde. At first, Vielka was hesitant, but I forced her. I want nothing bad to happen to her. I also need to go home to change my clothes.   Lawrence and I watched them walked away from us.   "Zach, look at the guy by the window," Lawrence got my attention.   I saw a guy looking at Vielka. I didn't know who he was. But for sure, he came from the other room and just roaming around to eavesdrop on why all my classmates just went out.   "Do you know that guy?" Lawrence asked me.   "No, just don't mind him. Let me focus on Vielka. She needs me right now," I said like I am scolding Lawrence. He must not confuse me.   We walked away, and I noticed that the guy he was talking about a while ago is already looking at me. Well, what should I expect? People always look at me. It's not new anymore.   On our way through the university gate, I saw a suspicious man wearing all black. Black bonnet, black shirt, black pants, and even black rubber shoes and black shades. I can't recognize him, but I am certainly sure, he's looking at me. I looked behind me, but there were no other people except Lawrence.   It's weird. It's become weirder when he smiled at me. I ignored him and minded nothing about it. I should only be bothered about Vielka.   Lawrence called his driver for him to drive us back home. When he arrived, he doubled his time driving their car.   "I saw a creepy guy earlier," I told to Lawrence. I admit I am a bit scared. Well, he is totally a creepy guy after all.   "Yeah, I saw him too. He was looking at you. Anyway, just don't mind it. Just focus on Vielka," he said. At least he said something helpful after all.   He is worried about me, but I am more worried about Vielka. She has no relatives left, and I could remember that she told me the story of how her grandma wanted to adopt her before. She has no family anymore, but at least; I could give my time to her.   "Sir Lawrence, someone is following us. I thought we just have the same direction, but that car just continued following us. What should we do now?" his driver said. I became more nervous. What the hell.   "No, keep going. It would be more dangerous if we go back. You can just drop me anywhere in our village, and I'll just walk. Anyway, we have securities there. Whoever inside that car might be frightened by their presence," I said without signal, and I was anticipating our compound.   We entered our village, and that car was really following us. What the hell!   "We should send you home, Zach. That car is really following us. Come on, I believe it's dangerous if you insist to just walk through your h---"   *BANG*   "A gunfire! Duck and cover Sir Lawrence and Sir Zach," my heartbeat just quickened, and I felt nervous. When I peeked outside, they turned a guard down and probably dead.   The other bodyguards and the driver brought out their guns and covered us.   THE GUNSHOT IS FRIGHTENING!   The Gunfire made the scene ear-deafening. After a few minutes, some people who are living in the village were shot too.   The gunfire lasted about half an hour. Suddenly, they stopped. I heard their car started. By the time I tilted my head, they were gone.   Some people came for us to be checked.   "Sorry Sir Zach, it took me some time to find my gun," said that man-in-uniform without my knowledge of who he was. Maybe he works for dad. They all came to us to apologize.   They gave us the help we needed.   "Thank you," I told them.   They bowed to me, and Lawrence's driver drove me home.   When we arrived home, I heard my father having an exchange of words with someone on his phone.   "Don't you dare, or else I will kill you," he threateningly said. He even threw his phone to the wall.   When he saw us coming, I could see the concern in his eyes.   "We're fine, dad. I need to go to Vielka's place. Her grandma just died earlier," I started without hearing any words from him.   "You were about to be killed! It's dangerous, Zach!" he shouted at me, but still, I want to go to Vielka. She needs me badly now.   "Just send some bodyguards, and I'll be fine dad. I just want to stay at her side," I insisted. He sighed before answering.   "Okay fine, but don't stay there for a longer time. I need to find those guys who tried to shoot you. Lawrence, please call your father and so with Clyde's. Tell them we need to have a meeting right now," dad commanded.   We both answered him yes, then he left the living room.   ***   Clyde greeted us outside when he saw almost ten bodyguards Lawrence and I brought. After a few minutes, another van of bodyguards just dropped, and they were Clyde's.   "Hey! Somebody's here, and he's always following Vielka like he's her pet," Clyde said after he approached us.   I didn't mind, and I just walked inside Vielka's house while Lawrence narrated to Clyde what happened to us earlier. By the time I was inside their house, I heard another gunfire.   I closed the door, and I saw how Vielka and our classmates being frightened as they heard the gunfire. I peeked outside the door because the gunfire lasted for almost five minutes.   Like what happened earlier, those guys retreated too.   Someone just caught my attention. The guy who was with Vielka didn't even show any signs of being scared.   Anyway, I don't care at all. I only care about Vielka now. I rushed to check on her, and she was in tears after all the things happened.   "Are you okay?" I asked her, though I already know what she would answer.   "Those were guns, right? Can you please leave Zach? I wanted peace, but as you came here, everything was in chaos."   I get it. She's just sad and frustrated. Maybe I could convince her to just let me stay here for a while.   "But I'm here for you Vie---"   "You heard what she said. Just leave bro," I looked at the guy next to him. He was the guy that Clyde was talking about earlier, and the guy who wasn't frightened during the gunfire.   I gave him a fake smile. I badly wanted to punch him in his face, but I don't want to cause any trouble anymore.   "I am just gonna leave not because you said, but because Vielka asked me to," I warned while looking at him seriously.   But I realized that I must leave now. I looked at Vielka. Without hesitation, I walked away. She doesn't even need me here.
