It wasn’t like she was the only woman he’d ever rescued. But since this assignment wasn’t going according to plan, he was willing to forego his personal vow of “hands off.” He could tell her, like he did all the others, that this was a one-time deal, that there would be nothing serious after tonight. There was a tightness in his chest when he thought about parting ways with her once they got back to town. But he’d need to debrief at HQ. Then he’d be sent out on another mission. Maybe recon.
