Chapter 3It was almost a hundred and fifty-five miles from DC to James Terrace, the subdivision of Williamsburg, Virginia where my friend’s parents lived. I’d been there a few times, and I knew the drive normally took two and a half hours, but I did it in two. The house was beautiful, a Colonial set on an outsized lot, with mature trees and landscaping. I pulled into the circular drive and parked behind the gray BMW that I knew was Mr. Shaw’s. He’d been at work, but Mrs. Shaw had said she was going to call him. I scrubbed a hand over my face, then got out of my Dodge.
