" Addie open up ". Lacey's voice drifts through the door.
I sniffled, hugging the duvet closer to my chest. " Tomorrow, OK, we can talk tomorrow " I told her. I heard her sigh. I wasn't in the mood to talk tonight, I just wanted to deal with this as I always had. Crying quietly tucked up in bed, so that mum and Dean don't hear me. Then come morning, I put on a fake smile and faced my tormentor in the kitchen over breakfast like nothing had ever happened. Mum and Dean just thought mine and Toby's lack of friendliness was due to us having zero in common. In the house in front of them he would at least pass me the sugar or say morning to me as we passed, I had told them once of how Toby and Trent treated me , he got grounded and Trent was band from the house.
That had only made things ten times worse at school. In the end, I told my mum that I was just acting out and made it up because I missed it being just us. I had hoped it would put a wedge between her and Dean so they would break up. Mum had been so mad and disappointed, it had been the only time she had ever raised her voice to me. She hadn't spoken to me then for a week. Eventually, I apologized for something that wasn't true and said I would make it up to Dean and her and that I could see how happy he made her, so I would put the effort in. She had promised to make sure we still got our alone time, so I didn't feel left out or jealous my time had been taken away from her. All a fabricated lie to make them back off at least a little. The next day, Toby and Trent were in the backyard. Trent was allowed to come back over. I had looked at them from my bedroom window and, as if they knew I was there, they both turned to look at me, both with smirks on their faces. Trent had raised a finger at me and wagged it, his lips pursed like he was tutting at me the way an adult would scold a child.
After that, how could I have gone back to mum and told her what was happening? She would have thought it was another lie.
I heard a thump at the door and Lacey whispered ouch under her breath.
Why was she still there ?
" Lacey ? " I called.
Immediately she answered" Yep ". I frowned.
" Why are you still there ? " I asked her.
" Waiting for you to open up, you're not dealing with this alone. I know we've only been friends for a month, and you still haven't told me everything those two dickwods have put you through. But I notice you lock yourself away after they have been their douche bag selves to you, and it's not healthy. You have me now, a problem shared is a problem halved you know " she stated through the door.
I rolled my eyes at the cheesy saying. Lacey was full of them. I swear she was old before her time. Last week, when I had a sniffle, she told me an apple a day keeps the doctor away. I laughed until I was red in the cheeks, my stomach hurt. Lacey was a breath of fresh air into my life. I hadn't really got any friends. People kept a wide berth back home to not be classed as uncool if seen with me. Not everyone was mean, but they just didn't want Trent and Toby to start on them or their little fan club crew, so they stayed clear.
Lacey was the one to help me out of the fountain. She had done it while glaring at the dickwods as she called them after she saw them pick me up and put me in there. I told her some bits about them and my past with them, enough for her to get the gist of the story but also not all of it, so I didn't have to relive everything.
"You know you should just punch them both in the face " she stated, pulling me back out of my thoughts. I couldn't help but laugh at that. They both towered me. They both had muscles. I was a short 5ft 1 inch. I had ample breasts enough to grab a hand full and a decent perky bum, but the rest of me was skinny. No muscle or brawn to cause either of them two any damage.
I got up out of bed and walked to the door, opening it. When I did, Lacey fell back, not expecting it, and bumped her head. Her arm and leg flayed in the air wildly. The sight made me cringe, then when she glared up at me and pouted, I knew she was OK enough to laugh at the image. " Hey no cool laughing, you killed brain cells their " she sat up, rubbing the back of her head.
I placed a hand over my mouth to try and stifle my laugh and tried to compose myself. Once I had, I cleared my throat. "Sorry, are you OK? " I asked. She stood and looked at me and smiled. " Of course I am, barely bumped it" she winked, walking into my room. Dean had money, enough to make sure I got a solo room. Mum more than likely asked him to help with that. My lack of friends with them translated into me just being antisocial. No good in social situations and mum had made a comment that maybe I would feel more at ease in my own space.
I still have no idea how it had never come up in a conversation that Toby and I would be at the same college. He had been in the room when I spoke of where I was going with them. But they never said "Oh he is going there too" or anything like that. I had never even asked or thought to ask myself. I would have thought he wouldn't have gone elsewhere that had a better football program. This college wasn't much for sports, more academically focused. There was a team for sure, but they didn't compete like some of the other colleges.
I had decided to take business studies and medical studies. I wanted to open my own pediatrician's office. To my shock and utter disbelief, both Trent and Toby were in my business studies classes. Who knows what else that had taken?
" I can't believe they ruined the operation to get Addie a life and laid " she whined as she plonked down on my bed.
My cheeks turned red at the silly name she had called me, wanting to have a life and have some fun. She had made it her mission since I told her the biggest thing I was upset about now that they were here. I opened up and told her that I had planned for college to be different, for me to have fun and have friends and go to parties. And maybe even get the attention of a boy, no boy back home would go near me. Somehow they were responsible. I knew it, but for what reason I had no clue. Probably just another way to torture me , keep me a virgin forever.
" I promise I heard Tammy herself say that her party would be better and that they were going. Only the coolest would be in attendance " she mocked Tammy's voice for the last part.
" Don't worry about it. They turn up like the devil wherever I go. I shouldn't have been surprised that they turned up " I sighed, closing the door.
Lacey pushed her glasses up her nose and pulled a disgusted face. Lacey was a hippy kind of girl. She was sexy in a bookworm sexy way. Blonde hair, curvy, like a sexy librarian with muddy brown eyes. Her dress sense was what made her hippy, like tonight her going out outfit was a flowy flowery number that clung to her top half, then flared out. She had a braid on one side of her hair with gold charms running through it.
I had brown wavy hair that, if not tamed, went frizzy that hung down my back with blue eyes and small features like my nose and my lips. They were small but pouty if that made any sense.
" You should tell someone, the dean or maybe your parents, that they're ass hats to you. You shouldn't be put through what they do to you. It's not right " she snapped grumpily.
" I can't, my mum is so happy. She and Dean are so in love. They're like love sick school kids around each other. After the cr*p my dad put her through, she deserves it. I wouldn't want me and Toby ruining that. Three years and I can move away, or he will move away. Toby hates the small town we are from. I can't see him ever going back. We will only ever have to see each other than at big family occasions and Trent I will never have to see him again either, unless Toby invites him to a family thing. I can finally escape them both and all the misery they put me through. Once I finish here, I will move as far away from them as I can. Besides, hopefully, then I can show up with a sexy man on my arm that should make them back off ", I told her with a wink.
Just then a loud bang happened at my door, like someone had punched it or kicked it. The door rattled in its frame.
" The hell was that " I screamed. Lacey and I both jumped up. We ran to the door and flung it open, looking out in both directions , no one was there.
" Some i***t playing pranks " I huffed.
Lacey stepped out and looked at me. " OK i'm going to go call my mom, you OK ? " She asked.
I nodded, and she came forward and pulled me in for a hug. I hugged her tightly and when she pulled back she smiled, " Tomorrow we will come up with a plan to get them back. You are not alone now " she stated, then walked off down the hall. Lacey was only five doors down from me in her own room too. Walking back in, I went to my window to pull the curtain and frowned walking away from the building was a figure that looked very much like Trent. I pulled a disgusted face. Probably been round here to sleep with some girl.
