All alone

990 Words
I run past crowds of people everywhere, some still tied up, and some who have got free and are running like me. I see the men in black tackling the runners to the ground and murdering them on the spot. There is blood and bodies everywhere, and I see people fighting to stay alive. They’re going to get me I keep thinking. I need to be faster. I turned to look behind me to see if my mother was still in sight. But there were too many people between us for me to see her. I did notice the man in black who was heading for me and my mother was not chasing me. This made me think the worst. He got to my mother. He killed her. A million thoughts raced through my head as I ran towards the woods surrounding our village. I kept running and running just like mum had told me to. I don’t know if any of the men in black saw me enter the woods, but if I were to guess, the answer would be yes as there were so many of them. At least one had to have noticed. In this moment I didn’t care though, all I could think about was my mother back there, alone. She was so weak she wouldn’t be able to fight to defend herself. I was running so fast that I tripped and fell to the ground. I didn’t bother to pick myself up. I just lay there. I burst into tears as I realised my mother was probably dead. I was crying uncontrollably. How could life go from being so bright and brilliant to so horrible and horrendous in less than 24 hours? I asked myself. My mums last words to me entered my mind. Run, run, run. The words kept playing over and over in my mind. ‘Crack’. I hear a noise. I get up and start running again. I run for hours until my body physically won’t let me run any further. I think I’m far enough away now to stop for a rest. It’s still dark outside, so I plan to rest until sunrise, then I’ll keep moving. I have no idea where I am running to as I’ve never left the village I grew up in. I know the woods continue for miles and miles but I don’t know what lays beyond them. I have never stepped foot outside the woods surrounding my village. I walked around to find somewhere to sleep. I come across a small cave with half of its entrance covered by a bush. This will do I thought. I lay down, feeling numb. I couldn’t think straight but my mind wouldn’t let me sleep. I kept having flash backs of everything I witnessed earlier. The men in black. The blood. The bodies. The screams of sheer terror. My mind was racing and my heart was pounding. A few days have past and I still haven’t reached the end of the woods. I have been walking for days without anything to eat or drink, I feel exhausted. Im too weak to use my wolf speed due to the beatings I took by the men in black and all the walking and running I’ve had to do. I feel dizzy, my head is spinning and I think I’m going to faint. I take a few more steps before everything goes black and I fall to the ground. I am woken when sudden rain falls onto my face. It’s pouring and I’m drenched from head to toe. I somehow find the energy to pick myself up and look for shelter, though there is nothing in sight except for trees. I crouch down under a tree to hide from the rain when I notice fruit hanging from the branches. My eyes light up. Apples! I see apples. I reach up and grab one, ripping into it with my teeth. I’m so hungry my stomach is screaming and I feel cramps, but nothing will stop me from filling my stomach. I eat until my hunger is satisfied and my tummy full. I see a puddle on the ground near me and begin filling my hands with water to drink. After a few minutes and lots of gulps, my thirst disappears. Sitting there under that tree, it suddenly hits me. I am alone. No one is here to protect me or look after me. I have no one to guide me though this horrible situation I am in. My last remaining family members are gone, my village is gone, my friends are gone, and my neighbours are gone. From now on I will have to survive on my own. I feel sadness come over me. I close my eyes and picture my cousin Amy’s face. She lived in my village with my aunt Claire, her mother. Amy has long red hair like a fox. She has freckles sprayed across her nose and checks. I think about the time we were playing dress up when we were little. We were pretending to be superhero’s and on that day we made a promise to each other to always have each others backs. We said we would remain best friends forever. A tear slowly fell down my cheek and onto my leg. I wondered if she somehow escaped the village before the men in black killed her, but I knew deep down it was unlikely. I’m going to miss her so much. We were so close, like sisters. I sniffed my running nose. I knew it was time to accept the fact that I am now on my own. Everyone is dead and my home is burned to the ground. I stood up, wiped my tears, and went on my way. The rain was slowing down, only light droplets remained. I still have no idea where I’m going but I know I have to keep moving.
