CHAPTER FOURTEEN Brian started with the bank as soon as they opened at nine. Showing his badge, he asked to speak to the manager. The teller took him to the back and knocked on a door. “Police to see you,” she announced. A young woman, maybe in her thirties, came forward and extended her hand. “Peggy Smith. How can I help you?” He shook her hand. “Brian Murphy, Mountain View Police.” He extended his badge again. She looked at it. “Have a seat, Detective, what can I do for you?” Brian explained about the deposit. The check was made to cash and deposited unsigned. He emphasized that this was a murder investigation and that the first accounts to check would be Gulden’s.
