CHAPTER SIXTEEN The alarm went off at five-thirty and Greg hustled into the shower. He just had enough time to grab a coffee to go and a piece of toast before he saw Brian pulling up in the cruiser. Right on time. He hoped they could stop for a bite of breakfast on the way. Picking up his jacket, he stepped into the cool morning air. The scent of magnolia hit him from the bush growing just outside his door. “I love this place,” he thought. “I could never be happy in a city.” It was too early for conversation, and after a gruff, “Mornin’,” they settled into a comfortable silence. It was still early for traffic and the road stretched clear ahead of them. Brian was a good driver. He drove fast but rounded the curves smoothly. Greg sipped his coffee contentedly. He knew they had hours ahead
