BABE

KURT'S POV I did everything necessary to avoid Lacey. I was still reeling from his last text from last night. Good night, Baby! I don't know what to think. All I know is that my heart is fluttering. How many more endearments from her am I capable of dealing with? Perhaps she couldn't accomplish anything else in life, so she resorted to me. Maybe she'll stop if she realizes how much I despise her, but I'm not sure how convincing my actions were with how my eyes bore into her every time. Is she fully conscious that she's affecting me? Is this hidden fire burning inside obvious? Her eyes are enigmatic. My disposition appears to be overly absorbed. It's as though I can't hide anything when I look at them. "Guys, come on, let's practice?" Leonard says. "You go first," Omar responded, "and I'll finish this immediately." "What is that?" Lester asked, taking a look at Omar's paper. "What are those?" Jex also sought out. "It's Lacey's, ah!" she said, grabbing the paper from Omar's grasp. "Why did you do that?" I said, shocked. "Do you remember when we were in the same class, and I was the one you demanded to help Lacey instead of you? Oh, that's what I'm doing now, and I'm still struggling and being given a task," Omar recounted regretfully. "But I did not say you're the one to do that," I told Omar. "Eh, I did. I don't want to. But yes, I was hypnotized by her smiles. I don't want to, but I felt embarrassed to reject her because her face is so beautiful..sorry!" he said, scratching his head. Except for me, everyone laughed. "Eh, it seems like you're the only one who isn't enamored with Lacey's beauty, eh?" Lester said to me. "How to be you, Sir Kurt?" Jex remarked. "Crazies!" I hissed. "Let's start so we can get home soon." If only they knew how I fought myself not to like that girl. Lacey is well-known on campus because her parents are one of the university's top donors when significant events are conducted. Based on their generosity, they are brilliant and humble, which is the polar opposite of Lacey's attitude. We started rehearsing in the music room. Everyone in the group shares the same interest. Music. I play guitar, Omar plays drums, Lester plays piano, Leonard plays bass guitar, and Jex sings. I sing occasionally, but only sometimes. I prefer to play instruments than sing. We played the song "Beautiful in My Eyes" by Joshua Kadison. Since we all enjoy vintage music, we usually start our tirade with a ballad. It never gets old. It appears that it was once legendary and iconic all over the world. Jex's voice was soothing. Those kinds of melodies are perfect for him. A few folks are watching our practice. Women predominated. Katarina is also there. Katarina is just my type of woman. She's a really modest woman. Very insightful. Above all, she's not particularly wealthy. Her way of life is also basic. The ordinary family has power in life as well. Katarina gave me a friendly wave. I smiled at her. I enjoyed playing even more because she was watching. That song is for her. But as I saw Lacey enter the music room with Shai, my smile faded. This was shortly after Sheena had arrived. It's most likely they were following Sheena. Good Lord! What exactly is this woman doing here? Kurt, they most likely observe practice. His mind answered him. Don't be so hard, Kurt! I could see the amazement on Lacey's beautiful face. I'm losing interest in playing. I don't mind having her here, but I don't want her to know we're performing. Perhaps she will pursue me even more. That may sound harsh, but it is how I feel. Men who enjoy music are thought to be more attractive to women. Maybe for others; I don't know if Lacey believes the same, but it appears so from the look on her face right now. The music rehearsal is over. I noticed Katarina approaching me and offering me mineral water, which I gladly took. I could see Lacey peering at us from the corner of my eye while I was drinking it. The way it appeared, it was tinted with jealousy. There, Lacey, get jealous! I saw Lacey approach Omar. "Ahm, thanks, Omar, for what you did on my worksheet; do you want water?" she softly said, offering water to Omar. Omar stared at me. I don't care what he does with it. He accepted the water Lacey offered her. Omar said, "Thanks, Lacey!" "You guys are great, even though we only saw a small portion of the show, but you're still terrific," Lacey remarked. "Yes, you are incredible; we had no idea you were playing," Shai declared. " Lacey, perhaps you also have water for me?" Jex joked. Lester elbowed at the back. "OK, next time, I'll bring more," Lacey answered sweetly. "Actually, no need!" I said firmly, not looking at her. " Hurry up, guys, and let's go!" I turned to my colleagues, tugging Katarina's hand out as well. "Is she your girlfriend?" Those presumptions from Lacey stopped us. Everyone was taken aback by the strange questioning. Everyone is waiting for my response. Even Katarina was at a loss for words. Shai's reaction shows her shock too. "So, what is it to you?" I asked politely. "I'm just wondering why you're holding her hands like her boyfriend, or are you trying to make me jealous? It's not working, babe!" she exclaimed, smiling as if she was used to it. People around us barely moved; we were like movie stars in a scene. Katarina started to react, but I stopped her. He didn't want her to be a part of what was happening. "You like playing games, huh? I won't buy your silly tactics!" I replied firmly as I prepared to leave, and my buddies followed afterward. "Goodbye, baby! Till then!" she exclaimed. I hadn't defeated her at this point, but we immediately got out of there to dismiss her. "It was... Wasn't that incredible?" Omar laughed before becoming quiet. I slightly punched him in the stomach. "No, no, baby, please!" Don't!" he laughs, acting like he is begging. You already have a baby, and you didn't even bother telling us?" said Leonard. "Will you guys shut up? Have remorse for Katarina!" I reprimanded them since I suspected Katarina was uncomfortable with the subject. "No, it's fine. It's alright with me. Isn't it just for fun?" she looks at me. "Sure, for sure," I said. "Of course, baby!" Jex answered inanely. Baby huh?
