*Chapter 16*
Reah stared at him, waiting for an answer. Why was he silent? Was he scared, or didn't he want to reveal who he was? Then, Reah noticed the pendant on his chain. She smirked, realizing that not only was he human, but he was also royal.
"Fine if you don't want to tell me who you are," she said, "just tell me what you want, and let's get to business."
Prince Anderson's eyes darkened. "What's in it for you?" he asked.
Reah advised him to lower his gaze. "Since you asked, all I want is that pendant."
Prince Anderson's hand instinctively went to his necklace. He thought for a moment, then heard a familiar voice.
"Where the hell are you?" the voice demanded.
Prince Anderson jumped out of his chair. Finally, the spy. Where had she been all this time?
"The Spy: I cracked the code, the foreign language. I know where they are. Where are you?"
Prince Anderson laughed to himself. He must be going crazy; he could hear her voice, but she wasn't even there.
Reah noticed his sudden change in behavior. "Is something wrong?" she asked.
Prince Anderson looked around the room. "What's the name of this place? There are so many villages the map is yet to record. First, I witnessed the beauty of Zorek darkness, where the sun never shines, and now this."
Reah stared at him, her eyes fixed on the pendant. The prince definitely had no idea what he was getting himself into.
"I thought Eryndor, the capital, was against magic," Reah said. "Why are you here seeking my help? Isn't that against the law, your highness?"
Prince Anderson's heart skipped a beat. So, she knew who he was. How long had she known? He needed to get out of there.
Reah smiled. "Since you asked me so nicely, I'll tell you exactly where you stand. Your death bed."
Reah laughed hysterically as the guard closed in on Prince Anderson, locking him up in the dungeon. She took off the pendant forcefully as she watched them drag him away.
The strange man laughed hard, clutching his abdomen. He watched everything and knew it was time for Anderson to plead for his help. The strange man turned towards Jeff, his eyes filled with disgust.
"You will find out that the king of Eryndor is no saint," the strange man said. "He has committed so many murders. You will regret serving him."
Aria spoke up, "Hey, I'm not his servant. Why am I here? Even when you take my powers, you still won't be able to use them. They'd rather use you."
Jeff stared at Aria, amazed that she had cut off the ropes that bound her arms together.
"How come she could use her powers, and I couldn't?" Jeff asked. "What's stopping me?"
The strange man sneered, "I had mercy on you and gave you back half of your powers so you could breathe. If you annoy me, I'll take them back."
Aria smiled, confident in her plan. Her powers only listened to her, and no one else. It was time for a showdown.
As the strange man moved to teleport himself to the witches, he froze.
Jeff smiled. "What's going on? What are you doing?"
Aria's eyes glowed, and so did the strange man. But just as she thought the battle was in her favor, the ring on the strange man's finger empowered him. Aria fell to the ground, unconscious.
The strange man spat heartlessly, "Be prepared to die."
Jeff felt a tear drop from his eye. He felt compassion towards Aria; she didn't deserve this. Even though she was cruel, she deserved to leave.
Feeling his anger rise within him, Jeff exploded. The ropes fell to the ground, and he felt intense power. The masked man, who was tied down with them, watched as his ropes also cut loose.
The strange man looked at Jeff in fear. "You are not just a servant. Who are you?"
Jeff shone brighter than the sun. "Even I have no idea."
The animal that had once chased Jeff came back to him and licked his feet. The strange man fled, but Jeff wouldn't be a fool if he spared him, not after seeing his powers.
Jeff chased him and caught up, chopping his head off. He took the ring that the strange man wore and stared at it. Was this the ring that people committed atrocities for?
Aria's powers were restored to her as soon as the strange man fell dead. The light that shone on Jeff was seen in many different towns.
Reah looked up, "Did you see that beam of light?"
The witches gathered together, staring. "Go get the scroll," Reah yelled at the women, who lost their balance and fell as they tried to find the scroll.
In the forest, Jeff was back to his human form. The masked man fell to his knees.
"Don't kneel," Jeff said. "I'm still your servant, Your Highness."
Michael looked up. "You recognized me."
"Yes," Jeff replied. "But why were you here?"
"I was hunting alone and got lost for days," Michael explained. "Not that anyone knew I was gone or cared to find me. And don't worry, your secret is safe with me."
Jeff smiled, knowing he could trust Michael. He had no interest in magic or the throne.
Aria woke up fully, unaware of what had just happened. "Did I do it? Did I knock him out?"
Jeff and Michael nodded in unison. Michael said, "Now, to find my brother…"
