An average age of the pilots, navigators, ground and armament crews were between seventeen and twenty-six years old. Not only were flying conditions harsh, so were the living conditions along with having to deal with s****l harassment and a great deal of skepticism.
There were three all-female regiments:
The 588th was the most highly decorated female unit in the Soviet Air Force. Their “job” was to harass the German army by bombing them at night, in a biplane that was used in World War I.
