The sun shone through the curtains, and for a moment, Mia thought she must be dreaming. Sunlight was never something she had the luxury of seeing from her basement. She was usually awoken by a bucket or water being thrown at her or the sound of banging on her door.
It was always the same. The head housekeeper would be barking orders at them. Whilst they scrambled to get dressed and ready to prepare breakfast, they had to clean the pack house, cook and serve breakfast, and do all the ranking wolfs laundry. This was all before the other pack slaves went to school. She was never trusted to go to school or do other jobs like shopping and collecting spices. Anything that involved leaving the packhouse, having tried to escape every chance she could.
Both of her fellow slaves were slightly older than her and almost old enough to shift, so she wouldn't be with her for longs.
When male slaves became of age to shift, they left school and were thrown into warrior training. Everyone had to endure daily wolfspane injections to keep their wolfs suppressed. This was so that no one could challenge the Alpha and also meant that all healing took the same time as Humans. The alpha said this would help build character and strength and make our warriors formidable and unmatched by other packs at enduring pain. It also meant though that no one could sense their mates. Their wolves were suppressed for so long that no one could recognise each others different sents. Females were then kept by the men as slaves in their homes and worked doing all the chores whilst the men trained.
To keep the warriors happy. The Alpha had a brothel on pack grounds. Omegas were kept as playthings for the warrior wolfs. The alpha was obsessed with a prophecy that foresaw that there would be a war between the supernaturals. He saw Wolfs as the superior species all the others were below wolves in his eyes, he couldnt see how they would be able to threaten wolves, but despite his arrogance, he believed in the moon goddess and her prophecy. He made sure his warriors were formidable.
Every male shifter had to train train train. Mia could never understand why the warriors couldn't train in Wolf form. Surely, that would give them the advantage over other species. After all, isn't that what set them apart. Wasn't that where their strength lies
Mia sat up and looked around she saw Blake snoring on the pullout sofabed he looked ridiculous. He was 6ft 4, and his back was a wall of muscle he barely fit on the bed. She made a mental note to insist he take the king-sized bed tonight. She headed to the bathroom, eager to enjoy the cascade of water on her tired body. Her muscles were aching from her first shift yesterday. (All normal Blake had warned her, but still frustrating all the same time) she tip toed around him, trying desperately not to wake him. She was soon showered and ready to face the meeting. It was then she stopped and thought about her lack of clothes and wondered if Blake would lend her a shirt, so she grabbed one from the closet. It looked ridiculous on her, but she didn't have much of a choice she decided to put a belt around it and make it into a dress to see if it would look ok.
It was then Floyd growled from within Blake. Blake just shrugged. Floyd likes that you are wearing my clothes. You have our smell on you now. (Wolfs are possessive animals, and they like other males to know who their mate belongs to. Especially as they had not mated and marked yet. He needed the other males to know she was his). Mine, he growled.
Mia chuckled a little early to claim me, Floyd. Blake hasn't even bought me dinner. Mia had read a lot of love stories and had read how ladies were always woewed by their admirers. She always read at night using a small camping light she had found in the rubbish one day. She used it as a form of escape when things got too much. She would dream she was far away in a castle somewhere surrounded by friends and a family who loved her.
Blake, you asked me if I knew anything about my herritage. Why did you ask? She was intrigued. Sorry, Mia, i didn't mean to pry. It's just that Floyd could sense Lyras aura, and it was really powerful. He is in awe of his beautiful mate and now that I have witnessed your shift and met Lyra, I think it would be important for you to learn about your past and maybe even find your real family. They must sense you through the family bond now that you have shifted. I am sure they are now searching for you
I wondered how "Alpha Asshat"was able to steal you. I must admit Lyra and I have been wondering this, too. Mia giggled. "Alpha Asshat." Sorry, Alpha Arthur. Me and Parker named him this at a conference once. I like it. Mia said it suits him. Her father was the Alpha of Clear Water, and that should have meant that she was treated well and proud of her pack, but she was ashamed. she would tell Blake all about it one day. But she wasn't ready yet, and he didn't push her for information.
I have just been mindlinked by my beta. They are ready for us for the meeting. Blake quickly dressed, and they left the bedroom and quickly joined the other's. Let's get some answers.
Everyone was gathered in the conference room all around one table with a video link set up to Alpha Blakes parents and the Wolf Council. Mia was nervous, and Blake placed his hand on the small of her back to offer reassurance.
Firstly, I just want to thank everyone for meeting with me at such short notice. I understand my beta has filled you in on me finding my mate yesterday, and I would like to introduce Mia to everyone as my mate and future Luna of The Blue Lake Pack.
Everyone congratulated us and welcomed Mia. Then Mia stepped forward. This brings me to the first thing we wanted to share. Mia had her first shift yesterday, and we all discovered she is a white wolf that can control the elements. Gasps were heard around the room, and everyone fell silent. That's not all. Her wolfs pupils are the shape of the lighting bolt, and she also absorbed the power of a bolt of lighting from the sky as she completed her shift.
The Prophecy the head of the council exclaimed. He used his hands to cover his mouth as if he had said something forbidden. Please can you tell us what you know, Bryan? Blake asked. Bryan was an older wolf. No one knew how old he was he had salt and peppered hair and a long beard. Children often referenced him to likening a wizard in a children's book. He had kind eyes that held years of wisdom and a formidable reputation.
Bryan took a sip of his water and spoke with confidence. The Prophecy was foretold by an ancient prophet. It is said that "when dark magic is used to taint the wolfs blood, supernaturals must look to the elementals to restore the balance. For only when the full moon is high and shines its blue light supernaturals and nature will combine to win through, and an Alpha who abuses its power will get retribution. "
Everyone looked at each other. Who would do something so crazy as to mix dark magic with wolf blood. That would involve witches or warlocks who practised dark magic, and these were said to believe that they were above us and would never associate outside of their race.
"There are those that have a covent in the mountains." The words came from a small fairy like creature who could barely see over the table despite being sat on Toadstool. The picture in front of Mia felt like it was straight out of a storybook.
