Daisy's pov I turned from where Khai had left me and looked back toward Melissa's table. It had filled up while I was gone. At least six women had gathered around her, all of them beautifully dressed, all of them talking at once with the kind of animated energy that came with wanting to be noticed. Melissa was in the middle of it with a smile on her face that I already knew well enough that it was a fake smile. I was not about to walk back into that and make it look like I was attaching myself to the most important woman in the room for protection. That was not who I was, and it was not the impression I wanted to leave on my first night here. So I turned and headed toward the hallway instead.
