Daisy's POV I could not stay in that room a second longer. I excused myself, keeping my voice steady even though my chest was doing something ridiculous, and I walked out of there as calmly as I could manage. The moment I was up the stairs and behind the bedroom door, I caught my reflection in the mirror across the room. My face was pale, my eyes wide, and I looked exactly like someone who had just made a fool of themselves. I pressed my fingers against my cheek and muttered under my breath. "What are you doing, Daisy?" Was I jealous? Because of him? Because of the way he had laughed at something Linda said, the way his whole face had softened in a way I had never once seen it do around me? I shook my head and stepped away from the mirror. This was a contract. That was all it was.
