The chamber fell silent.
Lena couldn't take her eyes off the silver-haired girl standing in the doorway.
"My name is... Lyra," the girl repeated calmly. "And I am the first Moon Child."
Lena shook her head.
"That's impossible."
"It should be."
Lyra smiled sadly.
"But nothing about the prophecy is simple."
Alpha Alden stepped in front of Lena.
"What are you doing here?"
"I didn't come to fight."
Lyra glanced at the battle raging outside.
"I came to stop a war."
---
Before anyone could respond, Viktor entered the chamber, his boots crunching over broken wood.
"There you are."
His crimson eyes rested on Lyra.
"You've finally chosen a side."
Lyra's expression hardened.
"I've chosen the truth."
Viktor laughed.
"The truth died centuries ago."
---
Lena frowned.
"Someone explain what's happening!"
Lyra turned toward her.
"The prophecy everyone knows... is incomplete."
Alpha Alden's face changed.
"What?"
"There was never meant to be only one Moon Child."
Silence.
"There are two."
Lena looked down at the glowing mark on her wrist.
"Then why do we have the same mark?"
"Because the Moon Goddess split her blessing."
Lyra raised her own wrist.
One crescent moon glowed silver.
Lena's glowed silver too.
"When both Moon Children stand together..."
"The prophecy begins."
---
Outside...
Kai was thrown against a stone wall.
He groaned as he struggled to stand.
One of the Blood Fang warriors charged toward him.
Before the attack could land—
Emma slammed into the wolf.
"I've lost count of how many times I've saved you."
Kai smirked.
"I wasn't keeping count."
Emma rolled her eyes.
"Liar."
Suddenly...
A Blood Fang wolf lunged toward Emma from behind.
"Emma!"
Kai transformed instantly.
He knocked the attacker aside just in time.
Emma smiled.
"I guess we're even."
---
Back inside the chamber...
Lyra stepped closer to Lena.
"I know you're afraid."
"I am."
"I was too."
Lena searched her face.
"You really are like me."
"No."
Lyra's smile faded.
"I'm what happens... if you lose yourself."
Lena's heart skipped.
"What does that mean?"
Before Lyra could answer—
A deafening roar echoed through the sanctuary.
The ground shook violently.
Cracks spread across the stone floor.
Everyone looked toward the ceiling.
Viktor smiled.
"He's awake."
Alpha Alden's face turned pale.
"No..."
"It can't be."
Lena whispered,
"Who's awake?"
Viktor slowly turned toward her.
"The first Alpha."
"The one imprisoned beneath this mountain."
"The one your ancestors defeated."
"The Shadow Wolf."
---
The entire sanctuary trembled.
Dust fell from the ceiling.
Another roar echoed from deep beneath the mountain.
This one sounded...
Almost human.
Lena instinctively grabbed Kai's pendant, which she had kept safely in her pocket.
The silver crescent suddenly became hot.
Too hot.
She gasped and nearly dropped it.
Lyra stared at the pendant.
"No..."
"It has chosen you."
Alden looked confused.
"Chosen her for what?"
Lyra's voice was barely above a whisper.
"The Moon Key."
"The only thing capable of sealing the Shadow Wolf..."
"...or setting him free."
Before anyone could react—
The floor beneath Lena cracked open.
She screamed as the ground gave way.
"LENA!"
Kai's voice echoed from outside.
He burst into the chamber just in time to see her disappear into the darkness below.
Without hesitation—
He jumped after her.
The hole closed behind them.
Silence.
Emma rushed into the room.
"Where are they?"
No one answered.
Far below the mountain...
Lena landed on cold stone.
Kai hit the ground beside her moments later.
They looked around.
Ancient ruins stretched into the darkness.
At the center of the chamber stood a giant stone door covered in glowing silver symbols.
Then...
A deep voice echoed from behind it.
"So..."
"The Moon Child has finally come."
