NORA’S POV
He was still standing there, with his sliver-gray eyes fixed on me like I was the only person in the room, amd the music played while the crowd swayed around us, but none of it mattered because all I could see was him.
“I have been watching you all night,” he said in a deep and warm voice that cut through the noise like a blade.
My heart beat furiously against my ribs as I stammered, “W-why?”
A slow smile appeared on his lips as he bent to whisper in my ear. “Because you are the most beautiful woman in this room, and you don’t even know it.”
I laughed, and the sound came out nervous and shaky. “I don’t know if you need glasses or if you are just….I don’t know, you are young, you should be with someone your age, like one of those women on the dance floor.”
He shook his head, still smiling. “I am not interested in them. I am interested in you, and I am not as young as you think.”
“How old are you?”
“Twenty seven. Not a boy, a man, and I know exactly what I want.”
My mouth became dry instantly, and I did not know what to say, so I just stared at him while he extended his hand toward me and asked if he could buy me a drink. I looked at his opem palm forna long moment then I placed my fingers in his, and his grip felt so warm and firm, which sent a shiver up my arm.
He led me to a quieter corner of the club, away from the pulsing lights and the screaming music, and we found a small table tucked against the wall. I sat down gently and he slid into the seat across from me, with his eyes still pinned on my face. Then a waiter came, and he ordered me another glass of wine and something dark for himself.
“I am Lucian,” he said, leaning forward towards me.
“Nora,” I replied.
Then he repeated my name, slowly and deliberately, like he was tasting it. “Nora,” he said with a smile. “That is beautiful.”
I looked away as my cheeks burned.
“Tell me something, Nora,” he said, and dropped his voice lower. “Do you feel this?”
I looked back at him, feeling confused. “Feel what?”
His silver grey eyes held mine as he whispered, “This thing between us, the pull. I know you feel it too.”
My throat became tight and I wanted to deny it, I wanted to tell him he was imagining things, but I could not lie, not when my heart was pounding so hard I could barely breathe.
“Yes,” I admitted quietly. “But—”
“But what?”
I shook my head. “You are too young, too young for me. I am thirty four, and I have a daughter. I am—”
He laughed softly and cut me off as he leaned closer until his lips brushed my ear, and I could feel his breath warm against my skin. “Age is just a number, Nora,” he whispered. “Besides, I believe I can handle you, mama.”
A shiver raced down my spine and my hands trembled while I struggled to form words.
Then he pulled back and looked into my eyes. “Don’t you think so?”
I lifted my head to look at him, really looked, and I saw his broad shoulders filling the space, his sharp jaw, his strong arms, and there was something about him, a weight and a presence that made me feel small in a way that was not unpleasant, like he was a man used to to being in control, used to getting what he wanted.
I looked away quickly and muttered, “I don’t know.”
He chuckled warmly to himself, then he stood and extended his hand towards me. “Then why don’t you come find out.”
I stared at his open palm while my mind raced with all the reasons I should say no, but Trevor’s voice echoed in my head, telling me that no one would ever want me. Then I thought of Tessa and her words about one night where Trevor didn’t win, and I thought of how long it had been since I felt alive, since I felt wanted, since I felt like a woman instead of just a mother and a healer and a broken shell of who I used to be. So I took his hand.
His fingers closed around mine, so warm and sure, and he pulled me gently to my feet with a sexy smile spreading across his face, which made my stomach flip.
We left the club together and cold night air hit my face as we stepped outside, but he did not let go of my hand. He led me down the street, past the neon lights and the empty shops, until we reached a tall building that looked expensive with a door man in a suit and golden sign above the entrance. He did not explain, he just walked inside and I followed silently.
The elevator ride was silent and he stood close to me, his presence filling the small space while I could feel the heat radiating from his body, and my heart pounded so loud in my chest I was sure he could hear it.
He opened the door to his room and I stepped inside, looking around at the beautiful space with large windows facing the city, a king sized bed in the center, and soft lighting that made everything feel warm and intimate.
Then I turned to face him. “I have not done this in a long time,” I said, my voice sounding small. “I am nervous.”
He stepped closer and placed his hands on my waist. “We can go as slow as you need,” he said softly.
Then he kissed me, and the moment his lips touched mine, everything disappeared. The fear, the doubt, the shame, all of it melted away and was replaced by a warmth I had not felt in years. I wrapped my arms around his neck and pulled him closer while his hands roamed my back, and pressed me tightly against him like he could not get enough.
He lips left mine and traveled down my jaw, my neck, leaving a trail of heat everywhere they touched. I gasped when his bit my skin softly, and he groaned deep in his throat. His fingers found the hem of my dress and he pushed it up slowly, rubbing his warm palms against my thighs.
I began to shake, but not from fear.
He kissed me again, deepened this time, and his hands moved higher while I cling to him for dear life. Then I felt his fingers hook into the waistband of my panties, and he pulled them down my legs, tearing them from my body like they were nothing. The sound of the fabric ripping made me gasp, but he didn’t stop. His mouth found my neck again, and he licked and sucked at the sensitive spot just below my ear while I moaned softly.
“You are so beautiful,” he whispered, his voice so rough and thick against my skin.
I could not speak. Infact, I could barely breathe.
He lifted me easily and carried me to the bed, laying me down gently while his body covered mine. His weight pressed me into the mattress and I felt safe, wanted, like I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
He kissed me again, slow and deep, and I totally lost myself in him.
The rest of the night was an emotional experience of heat and passion. He touched me like I was something precious, something he had been waiting his whole life to find. He whispered words that made my heart ache and he held me tightly like he never wanted to let go.
For the first time in three years, I let go of everything, and I finally let myself feel alive.
Later, we lay together in the dark with his arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me close while my body was still tingling from his kisses and my heart was still pounding. Then he pressed a kiss on the top of my head and murmured, “I have been searching for you, Nora. And I didn’t even know it.”
I wanted to say something, but I could not find the words because my throat was too tight, so I closed my eyes and let myself drift. I did not know where this was going, I did not know who he really was, but I knew that I had just had the best s*x of my life with this sweet, beautiful younger man, and I didn’t even know his last name.
