CHAPTER 11: THE POWER WITHIN The moment I moved, everything changed. The battlefield that had once felt chaotic and overwhelming suddenly became clear, every movement sharper, every sound more precise. The rain still poured heavily, soaking through fur and skin, turning the ground beneath us into mud, but it no longer slowed me down. If anything, it fueled me. My wolf surged forward with a strength I had never felt before, her presence no longer something I followed, but something I became. The Shadow wolves lunged all at once, claws slicing through the air, but this time, I didn’t react in fear. I moved with purpose. I twisted, ducked, and struck, my body flowing with a speed that felt almost unnatural. One wolf came from the left, I met it mid-air, slamming into it with enough force to send it crashing back. Another came from behind, I spun, claws raking across its side before it could land a hit. Their coordination faltered for just a second. And that second was all I needed. I pushed forward instead of retreating, forcing them to adjust to me. That alone shifted the rhythm of the fight. They weren’t expecting resistance like this, not from me. My wolf growled deeply, a sound that didn’t just come from my throat but seemed to echo through the ground itself. Stronger, she urged. Faster. I obeyed without hesitation. Every movement became instinctive, guided by something ancient and powerful awakening inside me. I could feel it now, clearly. The energy that had flickered before was no longer unstable. It was building, steady and controlled, spreading through every part of me like fire. Around us, the battle still raged, but I could feel the shift. Warriors who had been struggling moments ago began to regain ground as the Shadow wolves’ focus fractured. They had come for me, and now, they were being forced to deal with me. Kael broke through the circle then, his massive black wolf tearing into the nearest attacker with brutal force. His presence hit like a wave, powerful and commanding, and for a moment, our movements aligned perfectly. He struck from one side, I from the other, driving the Shadow wolves back step by step. But even as we fought, I felt it. The eyes watching me. The dark Alpha stood at the edge of the battlefield, rain sliding down his face, his expression calm, almost curious. He wasn’t worried. He wasn’t angry. He was… observing. Like this was exactly what he wanted to see. That realization sent a sharp unease through me. This wasn’t just about capturing me. This was something else entirely. Something deeper. Something dangerous. Another wolf lunged toward me, snapping me back into the fight. I met it head-on, but this time, something different happened. As my claws struck, a burst of energy surged through me, stronger than before, sharper, like lightning running beneath my skin. The impact sent the wolf flying farther than it should have, its body skidding across the mud with unnatural force. I froze for half a second, staring at my own claws. That wasn’t normal. Even my wolf felt it. Again, she urged, her voice filled with something close to excitement. I didn’t have time to question it. Another attacker came, I reacted, striking again, and the same surge exploded through me, stronger this time. The wolf didn’t just fall back. It was thrown. The energy pulsed outward, rippling through the air like a shockwave. The nearby Shadow wolves hesitated, their formation breaking completely now. For the first time, I saw uncertainty in their movements. Fear. Kael noticed it too. He shifted back into human form briefly, his eyes locking onto mine with intense focus. “Lira,” he said, his voice low but urgent, “what are you doing?” I shook my head slightly, my breathing uneven. “I don’t know,” I admitted. And that was the truth. I didn’t understand it. But I could feel it. The power inside me wasn’t just growing, it was awakening. The dark Alpha stepped forward then, his gaze sharpening with interest. “There it is,” he murmured, almost to himself. His voice still carried through the storm, reaching me clearly. “That’s what we were waiting for.” My chest tightened. Waiting? This confirmed it. This entire attack, this entire battle, had been designed for this moment. For me. “You see it now, don’t you?” he continued, his voice calm as he approached slowly. “You feel it. The power inside you.” I stepped back instinctively, my wolf tense but ready. “Stay away from me,” I warned. He stopped, but only for a moment. Then he smiled again, faint but unmistakable. “You think this is something you can control?” he asked quietly. “You’re wrong.” His eyes darkened. “That power doesn’t belong to you. It never did.” Anger flared instantly. “It’s mine,” I shot back, my voice stronger than I expected. His expression didn’t change, but something flickered in his gaze. “Then prove it,” he said. And suddenly, He moved. Not toward me. But toward Kael. The shift was so fast it barely registered before he was already there, striking with a force that sent Kael crashing back again. This time harder. Farther. My heart lurched as I saw Kael struggle to rise, blood mixing with rain as he pushed himself up. Rage surged through me, hot and blinding. My wolf roared inside me, louder than ever before. The power inside me exploded. Not in small bursts this time, but all at once. It surged outward in a wave, pushing everything back, the rain, the air, the wolves closest to me. The ground beneath my feet cracked slightly under the force, energy rippling outward in visible pulses. For a moment, everything stilled. Even the storm seemed to hesitate. The dark Alpha stopped. For the first time, He looked surprised. I stood there, breathing hard, my entire body humming with energy that felt almost too big to contain. My wolf stood tall within me, no longer just a presence, but a force. Something ancient. Something powerful. Something that had been hidden for far too long. “You see?” the man said quietly after a moment, though his tone had changed now. There was no amusement left, only something deeper. “You’re not like them.” His gaze locked onto mine again, intense and unwavering. “And you never were.” Kael pushed himself back to his feet, his eyes burning with fury as he stepped forward again despite the blood and the pain. “She’s not going anywhere with you,” he growled. The man tilted his head slightly, studying him for a moment before looking back at me. “This isn’t over,” he said softly. “Not even close.” Then he stepped back. And just like that, The Shadow wolves began to retreat. Not chaotically. Not in defeat. But in perfect, controlled synchronization. Within seconds, they were gone, vanishing into the storm as if they had never been there at all. The battlefield fell silent except for the heavy rain and the uneven breathing of the surviving wolves. I stood frozen in place, the energy inside me slowly settling, fading back into something quieter, but not gone. Never gone. Kael approached me slowly, his eyes searching mine, his expression filled with something I had never seen before. Not just concern. Not just anger. But realization. “Lira…” he said quietly. I swallowed hard, my voice barely above a whisper. “What am I?” And for the first time, No one had an answer.
