He glanced at the caller ID, answered with irritation, and barked into the phone. "Rachel, how many times are you going to cry wolf? Do you really think I'd still fall for it? And for the record, if you're being harassed, call the police. I'm not your personal bodyguard." He hung up and turned back to me, hoping I might change my mind. I ignored him completely and slid my resignation papers across the counter. He tried to grab them, but the bodyguard stopped him. "Nina, if you just don't want to see me, I'll leave the troupe. You stay. I've seen you on stage. Your eyes light up. You said you wanted to be the lead. Don't throw away your life out of spite. Don't hand in those papers."
