Saving the Day

He wanted to ignore the cry for help and walk away but then he heard the cry once again. He slowly began to approach the bushes where the voice was coming from. As he got close, be hid and peeled through the bushes. He saw three men harassing a lady. He couldn’t tell if they were wanted to kidnap her or just steal her money and other possessions. He wanted to mind his business but he had a tugging feeling in his heart to help her. He suddenly burst into the scene and drew the attention of the three husband the lady. They all turned to face him and fear gathered in their faces because Devon was more intimidating than what they anticipated. Christopher hunched over and commanded, “Leave her alone, right now!” The woman, who was obviously terrified, backed away while the three males paused briefly to assess Christopher. They were armed with pocketknives though, and they outnumbered him. One of them scoffed, “Mind your own business, buddy,” as he attempted to recover control of the situation. “You’re not concerned about this.” Even in his frail state, Christopher knew he was taking a danger, but he couldn’t watch while they hurt the woman. “I won’t ask again. Move away,” he retorted with resolve. As the standoff went on, the tension in the air intensified. Christopher understood that he needed to take prompt action before the situation worsened. He looked around in the hopes that someone might see them and call the cops. “I called the cops and they’re almost here,” Christopher said. He saw the fear that filled the faces of the armed men. Little by little, they began to back away. Christopher kept an eye on them until they disappeared from view before focusing on the woman, who appeared terrified but relieved. He offered her a hand. "Are you alright?" She grasped his hand with a shaky handshake. "I'm grateful. You saved me from those horrible thieves,” she said. Having mixed feelings himself, Christopher grinned flimsily. "It was the appropriate course of action. Are you injured? She gave a headshake. "No, just shaken up," I said. "I'm Christopher," he said, introducing himself. “I'm Emma,” after a little more moment of hesitation. Christopher couldn’t help looking at her. Emma was a beautiful woman. She was of average at but very curvy and beautiful. Emma noticed how Christopher was staring at her and a blush appeared on her cheeks. It was getting awkward as the boats to the not saying anything to each other. So Emma decided to break the silence. “Can I buy you a cup of coffee? I just want to properly appreciate you for saving me,” Emma said. “It’s nothing please. I just did what anyone else would have done,” Christopher answered. “Oh no, I insist. I definitely must get you a cup of coffee to thank you for helping me. Not everyone would have done something like that. Most people try to ignore cries for help because they don't want to get harmed in the process of trying to save someone else,” Emma said. Christopher thought about it for a moment and then gave his reply to Emma. “Fine but just one cup of coffee,” he said. “Thank you. I know a good coffee shop just a few minutes away from here,” Emma suggested. “Okay, lead the way,” Christopher said. Emma smiled at him and lead the way just as he had asked. True to her words, the coffee shop was not far from the park so they got there in time. They gotten to the coffee shop and found a booth close to the window. A waitress approached them and asked what kind of coffee they’d like to have. “Medium-sized caramel latte with skim milk and an additional shot of espresso,” Christopher and Emma said at the same time before bursting into laughter. The waitress looked at each other in surprise but Christopher and Emma were more surprised. The waitress politely asked them to wait patiently while she got their orders. “We have the same coffee orders; who knows what else we have in common?” Christopher said. Few minutes later, the waitress brought their coffee orders and asked them to enjoy. While they were sipping from their coffee mugs Christopher asked Emma to tell him a little about herself. “My full name is Emma Rose Addison and I’m a student in my final year at the Miami International University of Art & Design. I want to be a fashion designer after school. It had always been my dream and I’m so happy I’m at the verge of making it happen,” Emma said looking so happy. Christopher couldn’t help but feel proud of her for having a dream and sticking to it. By the time she was done talking about herself, they were done with their coffee. “Thanks for the coffee, Emma,” Christopher said. “My Pleasure,” Emma said with the brightest smile that tugged at Christopher’s heart. “I have to go now. Take care and try to avoid bad guys,” Christopher said causing Emma to giggle. “I will,” She said eventually. Christopher waved at her and made his way back to the park where he had his car. He got in and drove back to his house. When he got there, he saw his friend waiting for him. “Where have you been all the time? I’ve been calling your phone. You took longer than you should at the park. I should have just gone with you,” Mark said. “I’m okay bro. Everything’s fine. Something just happened at the park. I saved a girl from some bad guys who were trying to mug her and she insisted to treat me to a cup of coffee. I couldn’t refuse,” Christopher answered. “Is she pretty?” Mark asked.
