I sat, wrapped under the bed cover, hoping and waiting as seconds morphed into minutes and minutes into hours. I had sent that text to Martin, hoping he would come rushing home, desperate to talk, to understand. But he didn’t. Morning turned to afternoon, and afternoon to dusk, the rain falling harder with every hour. The world grew darker, and so did my hope. By the time night had overshadowed the day, my heart was heavy with a sinking truth. Martin wasn’t coming. Maybe he didn't want to face me.
