“Why didn't you stop her from leaving?” Marcus asked me the moment he saw me approaching the stairs.
“Why would I stop her?” I retorted, stopping at the step, giving him my attention.
“It is raining heavily out there. She is pregnant, with less clothing, without cash or card. She is helpless,” Marcus said, using his fingers to demonstrate as he listed the things I already knew.
“She lied to me. You know what we do to liars,” I said, raising my eyebrows.
“Did you give her a chance to explain?” he asked, his questions getting on my nerves.
“No, I didn't. I don't need her to tell me more lies,” I answered him.
