Emily's training continued, but she couldn't shake off the feeling of uncertainty. She felt like she was falling behind, and the pressure was mounting.
Asher and Grandma Rose were patient, but Emily could sense their concern.
One night, as they sat around the fireplace, Grandma Rose spoke up.
"The darkness is growing stronger," she said, her voice grave.
Asher nodded. "We need to be careful."
Emily felt a surge of fear. What did this mean?
Grandma Rose continued, "We'll need to perform a ritual to protect ourselves."
Asher stood up. "I'll gather the materials."
Emily watched as they prepared for the ritual. She felt a sense of unease, like something was watching her.
As they began the ritual, Emily felt a strange energy building up. The air seemed to vibrate with an otherworldly power.
Suddenly, the lights flickered and the air grew cold.
"What's happening?" Emily asked, her voice trembling.
Grandma Rose's eyes locked onto something behind Emily.
"Look out!" she shouted.
Emily turned, but it was too late.
A dark figure loomed over her, its eyes glowing with an eerie light.
Emily screamed, but her voice was drowned out by the sound of shattering glass.
Everything went black.
When Emily came to, she was lying on the floor, her head throbbing.
Asher and Grandma Rose were nowhere to be seen.
But as she looked around, Emily saw something that made her blood run cold.
A message scrawled on the wall, in red letters:
"You're next."
Emily's heart racing, she scrambled to her feet. Where were Asher and Grandma Rose?
She called out, but there was no answer.
Panic set in as Emily realized she was alone.
She stumbled through the house, searching for any sign of her loved ones.
But every room was empty, every window shattered.
Emily's fear turned to despair. What had happened?
As she wandered back to the living room, Emily saw a piece of paper on the floor.
It was a note, written in Asher's handwriting:
"Emily, we've been taken. Don't look for us. Run."
Emily's heart sank. What did this mean?
She felt a presence behind her and spun around.
But it was just a shadow, cast by the flickering candles.
Or was it?
Emily knew she had to get out of there, fast.
She grabbed her bag and ran, not stopping until she was deep in the forest.
Breathless and scared, Emily hid behind a tree.
What was happening? Who had taken Asher and Grandma Rose?
And what did they want from her?
As Emily waited, hidden in the darkness, she realized that she was truly alone.
No one was coming to save her.
She had to save herself.
