📖Chapter 2: Marked by the Moon
The wind howled through the ancient forest, tugging at Elara’s hood as she stumbled deeper into unfamiliar territory. Her breaths came in short, sharp bursts. Her heart pounded in her chest, not just from fear, but from something stranger—something primal awakening inside her.
She shouldn’t have run. She should’ve stayed quiet, should’ve obeyed her aunt’s warning never to step past the old stone arch after sunset. But she had seen them—eyes glowing like embers, watching her from the treeline. Not animals. Not human.
Wolves. And something more.
Her foot caught on a root, and she tumbled to the ground. Pain shot through her ankle, but she barely registered it. Something was coming.
Then, silence.
A low growl rumbled behind her.
She turned, frozen.
Standing at the edge of the clearing was the largest wolf she’d ever seen. Midnight-black fur shimmered in the moonlight, and eyes—unnaturally intelligent, burning gold—met hers. It didn’t attack. It just… stared.
Her throat tightened. “Wh-what are you?”
The wolf stepped closer. Slowly. Deliberately. Its presence wrapped around her like a shadow—powerful, ancient, terrifying.
Then it shifted.
Bones cracked. The air shimmered with a pulse of energy, and in the space where the beast had stood now stood a man.
Naked. Towering. His body scarred and powerful, his face carved from stone and moonlight. His gaze never wavered from hers.
“You trespassed on sacred ground,” he said, voice deep and laced with restrained fury. “And now the moon has chosen.”
Elara backed away, her pulse racing. “I didn’t mean to—”
“You carry the scent of the blood pact,” he cut in, stepping closer. “That means you’re mine.”
“W-What?”
“My name is Kael,” he growled, eyes glowing once more. “Alpha of the Blackfang Pack. And by the rites of our kind, you belong to me now.”
She shook her head. “No. This is insane—I’m not one of you.”
Kael’s lips curled in a cold smile. “You will be.”
As the moon climbed higher, a strange burning sensation spread across her wrist. She looked down—etched into her skin was a glowing sigil, pulsing with silvery light.
The mark of the pact.
She had no idea what it meant. But she knew one thing—
Her life would never be the same again.
