Keeping her safe

Twice in One Day

Rachel's POV

We were back in the royal gardens after we left the horses by the stables for the stable boy to get them sorted and fed. Snowflake was still rattled.

Me and Brent were walking side by side by the palace walls on our way to the main palace gate.

Brent fumbled with his hands. "Are you sure you will be okay?" 

I smiled at him. "Yes don't worry so much."

We kept walking and Brent looked towards me. "I hope the horses didn't scare you off. Would be a pity if we can't ride together again."

I started blushing. "Maybe if I get a better horse I will."

Brent smiled at me. "Remember horses can sense if you are scared around them. So you should try and relax and trust them more."

I looked down. "I never thou-

Suddenly I heard very fast footsteps behind me and as I turned around Chase pushed me out of the way and just as we both hit the ground. I heard a pot shattering where I stood just a second before.

I looked at the pieces and back at Chase. I suddenly started blushing when I noticed he was on top of me and too close to my face. 

He was out of breath. Genuinely looking worried. "Are you alright."

I kept staring at him. "I - I am fine. "

The guards and Liam and Carl were securing the palace grounds and went to the rooms that was above us where it fell from. Desperately searching for who was responsible.

Brent was frowning. "Here let me help you up."

I completely forgot that Brent was still there. Chase got up quickly and made sure he helped me up first.

"She is in good hands. I will help her up."

Brent smirked. "You can't help yourself how will you help someone else?"

"I am okay guys. No need to fight. It's just strange that this has happened twice now today."

Chase looked alert. "Wait what?!" He came straight up at me. "What happened?"

I shrugged. "A shot went off in the woods and my horse sped off." I gestured to Brent. "Brent over here rescued me." Chase looked very surprised by my words.

Liam and Carl came up to us. "My Lady, unfortunately we couldn't find the person responsible for this. It is as if the person vanished."

I looked worried all of a sudden and started remembering what Chase told me at the ball. The palace has secret passages. He looked at me and nodded as if he knew what I realised.

"I think I should retire. I had a very long day and need some rest."

Brent and Chase nodded in agreement and Liam and Carl took me the rest of the way to my rooms.
