The room fell into a deafening silence as my laughter faded.
Kaira stood a few feet away from me, her hands clenched tightly at her sides. She looked at me, confused and a bit concerned, as though she couldn’t understand why I wasn’t angry?
But I was.
Truth be told, I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to laugh or break something. Maybe both.
“K-King Eryx…”
I looked at her. I could hear the racing of her pulse, and smell her fear lingering beneath her scent…that felt wrong.
“So that was what he asked for?” I spoke more to myself, than for her to hear.
Her shoulders stiffened at my words, a reaction so small, I would’ve missed if I hadn’t watched closely.
I don’t… she tried to speak, but her mouth pressed into a close thin line.
What more could she say? Lie to my face and prote
