Making her my priority

1413 Words
Eryx ~ I know I shouldn’t blame myself for her pain. But I do. The physical weight was crushing me… for not being there in time to protect her. She was in my arms, barely conscious, her face flushed, breathing uneven. Even when pressed against me, she still felt weightless. I walked in gentle strides, with her in my arms. Careful, like she could break. “Aven, since when is Eryx such a gentle man?” I heard Cassian whisper from behind. I paid less attention to Cassian’s whispering and more on Kaira. “Kaira, you’re safe now. Just give me any sign that you’re with me.” “Th-Thank you… King Eryx.” A dry chuckle left my lips. Even when weak, you're still so formal. “Nah, I refuse to believe this. Maybe we’re in some kind of alternate universe,” Cassian muttered. “Oh shut up Cassian,” Aven cut him off. “Eryx is never a gentle man. Never was and never will be.” ‘Enough, both of you.’ That was all it took, to get them quiet. “I am not gentle,”… At least that’s what I thought. Until now. I got to my car and Ben, my driver, rushed from his driver’s seat and opened the door to the back seat with a bow. “My King!” “Ben, I said. When we leave this place, find the nearest inn or hotel. We’ll be spending the night there. Wait. What? Aven exclaimed. That isn’t the plan, Eryx. Couldn’t you hold it a little longer? Before setting your mind to shag. “She’s hurt, barely alive and starved.” I barely turned to face them. 'Do you expect me to carry her along on the road for two days untreated?’ It’s only common sense brother. “King Eryx, no.” Kaira’s voice came out quietly, though faint. But I caught every word. “I can manage.” “You’re hurt and telling me you can manage?” The words left my lips, barely with restrained control. Once again, my brothers were getting in the way. I let out a slow breath, containing myself. “If you’d both like to continue, go ahead. Let it not be made known that I am holding you guys from your royal duties.” King—King Eryx you can’t take her. I heard a loud shriek and the approaching footsteps of someone intolerable. “Now what.” I let out a groan and finally turned. Emma stood breathless, her face flushed and hair slightly out of place from running. “You can’t take her.” “And why not?” “Because—because she’s a slave here. An omega.” “So now you question me, Princess Emma?” I let my eyes drop over her slowly. “Should I remind you, you’re still a rogue interfering in my matters.” “And she being an omega—aren’t omegas werewolves too? If I can give you a rogue a chance…” My eyes stayed glued on Emma. “What makes her any less different?” “Well they’re…” “Are you questioning an Alpha King’s decree? Do you want to die Emma Morgen?” Her face was drained of color. “N-no.” “Then I suggest you focus on preparing for your next session at the academy. Rather than poking where you don’t belong.” “King Eryx. Kaira voice came out slowly, barely above a whisper. “She’s right. My fath—the rogue King won’t take this lightly.” Smart girl Voros murmured in my thoughts. “Shhh.” I adjusted her carefully into my arms. “Let me handle that. You don’t need to worry about Victor.” I looked down at her. “You’re my priority now. And there’s no f*****g way I’m leaving you behind again.” As the door shut, I felt her flinch beside me. “What happened?” I turned immediately. She looked up at me, those big baby eyes of hers unblinking and searching. “Your eyes show no mischief.” She whispered. “I just hope I’m right this time around.” She let out a small breathless whisper. “Thank you… Eryx.” Those were her last words before she turned away and went still. I was thrilled she finally removed the King title. But no mischief. Right choice. What does that even mean? ************************** Since when is the Alpha King so kind to servants that are victims of abuse? Ben asked Kaden, Aven’s driver, through the mind-link. “What you mean to say is, since when is one of the Alpha triplets so kind. Period.” Kaden corrected him and asked. Did you know about this? “Nope,” Ben responded. Eryx is not a womanizer, he's no saint towards women either, but bringing one home? That’s a first. ‘It seems Alpha’s taste in women has changed,’ Kaden said. Ben agreed. ‘I thought, since King Cass likes curvaceous mature women, the others will too. I remember all Aven’s bridal selection, big boobs that set in rhythm with her hips. Cassian blurted that the only good ass is the one that has ripples when spanked. For things that emphasized the likes of them, it’s strange he chose this scrawny girl.’ “I can hear you,” I grumbled out. Ben jumped from his driver’s seat. If you want to bad mouth me and my brothers, ensure the mind-link is just between the two of you. Shit. We’re so f****d! Ben muttered through the mind-link. I couldn’t confirm if Ben and Kaden stopped with the gossip, or if they simply blocked me out, but one thing was certain my brothers heard too. However, I was certain for one thing, she was the one. Or how else would she have my wolf drooling over her? Hey! Boy! I hear him grumble. But their words were normal, because, “my brothers and I,” weren’t exactly good towards women. In the Red Moon Pack, no one will dare mistreat her, and I would make sure she gets whatever she needs and wants. I will never forget the dead look in her eyes from the palace backyard, four nights ago. It made me wonder why on earth would a father treat his own child so poorly? Moving forward, I observed Kaira and frowned at her injuries. You know what Ben, the hotel will be better. Something further from the main road. I said through the mind-link to Ben. Per my instructions, we stopped at a hotel. Buy medical supplies for tending to cuts and bruises. Order lunch since it’s past breakfast for me also. Let me know when it’s ready. I sent Ben a message through the mind-link again. I could hear Ben gasping at the sight of me carrying Kaira princess style towards the residential counter. She frowned a bit when I took her into my arms, and I wondered if an injury was on her back too. Two rooms please! A woman stood at the counter, my focus was on getting Kaira to shelter. I didn't notice the two familiar presences at my side. Make it four, a deep voice rumbled close to me. I raised my gaze quickly to find Aven, and Cassian close to me. What the hell. Why are you both here? Cassian flashed me a mischievous smile. Didn’t think you could get rid of us that easily Eryx. We can’t just leave you alone with her, Aven interjected. Uhmm sir, we’re fully booked. Currently short on rooms… so… We just have two rooms at the moment. What! Cassian clapped his hands, Oh, this is good. I and Aven, will share a room, while you and your new… well, whatever shares a room. We can’t, I said. And why is that? Cassian pressed. Why is he being so difficult all of a sudden? I can’t say I don’t want to share a room with her because she’s our stepsister, nor can you say she’s our mate, Voros added. But that would give them the impression that I want her. You’ve to agree with them, Eryx. Or they would suspect foul play. You know what fine, we would take it. “Eryx, he was just…” Aven tried to justify his actions as usual. He was nothing, I cut him off calmly. You both should just stay out of my way.
