Chapter 93: Beneath the Quiet Moon

666 Words
The celebration in the valley lasted long into the night. Fires burned brightly across the battlefield as warriors gathered together, sharing food, stories, and laughter. The tension that had filled the air during the war was finally gone, replaced by relief and joy. But high above the valley, the mountains remained quiet. Far from the noise of the celebration, Kael stood alone near the edge of a cliff overlooking the kingdom. The moon shone brightly above him. Its pale light stretched across the forests and mountains, illuminating the land that had nearly been destroyed. Kael rested his hands on the cold stone railing of the cliff and looked out into the distance. For the first time in days— The sky was peaceful. No storms. No enemies. Just silence. Behind him, soft footsteps approached. Kael didn’t need to turn around to know who it was. “Escaping the celebration?” Aria asked gently. Kael glanced over his shoulder as she stepped beside him. Her silver hair glowed softly under the moonlight, and the calm expression on her face reflected the peaceful night around them. “Something like that,” he said. Aria leaned lightly against the stone beside him and looked out across the valley. The distant fires of celebration flickered like tiny stars below them. “They deserve this moment,” she said quietly. Kael nodded. “They fought hard.” For a few moments, the two of them simply stood together in silence. The wind moved gently through the mountains, carrying the faint sounds of laughter from the valley below. Aria finally spoke again. “You were incredible today.” Kael raised an eyebrow. “I was trying not to die.” She laughed softly. “Well… you succeeded.” Kael smiled slightly. Then his expression grew thoughtful. “I couldn’t have done it without you.” Aria turned to look at him. “You would have found a way.” Kael shook his head. “No.” His golden eyes met hers seriously. “I mean it.” For a moment, neither of them spoke. The quiet between them felt comfortable. Peaceful. Aria looked back up at the moon. “It’s strange,” she said softly. “All that power… all that destruction…” She placed a hand lightly over the crescent mark on her skin. “And now everything feels calm again.” Kael followed her gaze toward the glowing moon above them. “The moon chose well,” he said. Aria looked at him. “You really believe that?” Kael nodded. “I do.” A gentle breeze moved through the cliffside, brushing softly through her silver hair. Aria smiled faintly. “Then I guess we both had powerful forces watching over us.” Kael chuckled. “Looks that way.” Another quiet moment passed between them. Then Kael spoke again, his voice softer now. “You know…” “When the Cataclysm exploded earlier… for a moment I thought…” He stopped. Aria studied his expression. “You thought what?” Kael looked down briefly before meeting her eyes again. “I thought I might lose you.” Aria blinked slightly. The seriousness in his voice caught her by surprise. “But you didn’t,” she said gently. “No,” Kael replied. “And I don’t plan to.” The moonlight reflected in their eyes as they looked at each other. The air between them suddenly felt different. War had brought them together. Battle had tested them. But something deeper had quietly grown between them along the way. Aria looked away for a moment, smiling softly. “Careful, Alpha King,” she teased lightly. “You’re starting to sound sentimental.” Kael laughed quietly. “Don’t let it go to your head.” But the warmth between them remained. Above them, the moon shone peacefully in the night sky. And for the first time since the war began— The future didn’t feel uncertain anymore. It felt hopeful.
