Chapter 41: The Army of Darkness

473 Words
The sky above the battlefield twisted like a living nightmare. The swirling vortex of darkness continued to grow, expanding wider across the heavens until it blocked out the moon itself. A cold wind swept across the plains. Every warrior on the battlefield felt it. Fear. Aria stared upward, her silver eyes narrowing as the first shadowy figure began to descend from the vortex. “What are those?” she whispered. The massive shape fell from the sky and landed heavily on the battlefield. The ground cracked beneath its weight. Dust slowly cleared… Revealing a creature even larger than the Devourer’s corrupted beasts. Its body resembled a monstrous wolf, but its skin looked like black stone, and its eyes burned with deep crimson fire. Then another creature fell. And another. And another. Within seconds, dozens of the dark creatures began pouring from the vortex. Kael’s grip tightened around his sword. “This… this can’t be real.” Behind him, the Lycan soldiers began to step backward as the new army continued to arrive. Dravoryx spread his massive wings proudly. “Allow me to introduce you,” he said, his voice rumbling across the battlefield. “My true army.” The creatures roared together, their voices shaking the ground like thunder. “These are the Nightborn, ancient predators from the shadow realm.” Aria’s heart pounded. If the Devourer alone was nearly unstoppable… Then an entire army like this could destroy the kingdom. On the ridge above the battlefield, Magnus smiled coldly. “Perfect,” he whispered. The Devourer lowered his massive head toward Aria. “You see now?” he said softly. “This war was never meant to be fair.” Suddenly, Lunaris stepped forward. The great silver wolf raised his head toward the sky and let out a powerful howl. The sound echoed across the plains like a call of ancient power. Immediately, Lycan warriors across the battlefield felt their strength rising again. Thalor lifted his massive body behind Aria. “The guardians still stand,” the serpent rumbled. Aria slowly clenched her fists. The silver energy around her body flared once more. “No,” she said firmly. Her voice carried across the battlefield. “This war isn’t over.” She stepped forward, moonlight gathering around her once again. “If you bring an army…” Her silver eyes began to glow brighter. “Then we will fight like an army.” Kael raised his sword high. “Lycan warriors!” he shouted. The soldiers roared in response. Dravoryx’s grin widened. “Yes…” The Devourer lifted his wings as the Nightborn army spread across the battlefield. “Let the real war begin.” Lightning flashed across the dark sky. Two armies faced each other once again. And this time… The battle would decide the fate of the entire Lycan kingdom
