Chapter 32: Gathering Storm

1032 Words
The sky above the Lycan kingdom darkened as heavy clouds rolled across the horizon. Inside the royal palace, the war council chamber was filled with tension. Generals, commanders, and elite warriors stood around the large stone table where a detailed map of the kingdom had been spread out. Kael stood at the head of the table. His expression was serious as he placed a marker on the northern border. “Grey Hollow is gone,” he said firmly. “And according to our scouts, Magnus’ forces are moving south through the mountain passes.” A low murmur spread across the room. One of the generals leaned forward, studying the map. “How large is the rebel army?” Kael answered immediately. “Larger than we expected.” He pointed toward several mountain routes. “They’ve gathered rogue wolves from multiple territories.” Another commander frowned. “And with that creature fighting beside them…” He didn’t finish the sentence. Everyone in the room already understood the danger. At the far end of the chamber, Aria stood quietly near the window. Her eyes were fixed on the cloudy sky beyond the palace walls. Beside her stood the massive silver guardian, Lunaris. Although invisible to most of the warriors, those with strong spiritual awareness could feel the guardian’s powerful presence. Aria placed a hand over her chest. The Moon-Bound energy within her had not calmed since their encounter with Dravoryx. If anything, it had grown stronger. “You’re worried,” Lunaris said inside her mind. Aria nodded slightly. “Yes.” Her voice was barely a whisper. “Dravoryx said he was preparing.” Lunaris’ glowing eyes turned toward the mountains in the distance. The Devourer does not make empty threats. Before Aria could respond, the chamber doors suddenly burst open. A scout rushed inside, his armor covered in dust. “My lord!” All eyes turned toward him. Kael stepped forward. “What is it?” The scout struggled to catch his breath. “Magnus’ army… they’ve begun marching.” The room erupted into shocked voices. “How many?” “At least three thousand rebels,” the scout said quickly. “And Dravoryx was seen flying above their forces.” The room fell silent. Three thousand rebels backed by an ancient monster. Kael clenched his fists. “So it begins.” He turned to the generals. “Prepare the army.” Several commanders nodded immediately. “How many warriors can we gather?” Kael answered without hesitation. “Five thousand Lycans.” Another general frowned slightly. “That may not be enough if Dravoryx attacks directly.” Aria stepped forward. “It won’t be just the army fighting him.” Everyone turned toward her. Kael raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?” Aria looked at Lunaris. The silver guardian stepped into the center of the chamber, now visible to everyone as a glowing spirit form. Gasps spread through the room. “By the moon goddess…” Lunaris’ voice echoed calmly in their minds. The guardians of the Moon-Bound are awakening. Kael folded his arms. “How many guardians are there?” Three. Aria looked surprised. “Three?” Lunaris nodded. I am the first. Another sleeps beneath the eastern sea. And the final guardian lies hidden within the Burning Desert. The generals exchanged uncertain glances. One of them spoke carefully. “And if all three awaken?” Lunaris’ silver eyes gleamed. Then the Moon-Bound will possess the power needed to challenge the Devourer. Kael turned toward Aria. “That means you’ll have to travel.” Aria nodded slowly. “I know.” “But Magnus’ army is already marching,” one of the generals argued. “We cannot afford to lose the Moon-Bound now.” Kael was silent for a moment. Then he made his decision. “We divide our forces.” The generals looked surprised. Kael pointed toward the map. “I will lead the army to hold Magnus at the northern plains.” His gaze shifted toward Aria. “And you will find the remaining guardians.” Aria’s heart pounded. “That’s dangerous.” Kael’s voice was calm but firm. “So is facing Dravoryx without them.” Lunaris nodded in agreement. The Lycan warrior speaks wisely. The Devourer grows stronger each day he remains free. Aria took a deep breath. “Then I’ll go.” Kael stepped closer to her. “You won’t go alone.” He pointed toward one of the warriors standing near the wall. A tall Lycan stepped forward. “This is Rylan,” Kael said. “One of our best scouts.” Rylan bowed slightly. “I will guide you to the eastern sea.” Aria gave a small nod. “Thank you.” Outside the palace, thunder rumbled across the sky. Dark clouds rolled over the mountains like an approaching storm. Far to the north… Magnus stood on a rocky ridge overlooking his massive rebel army. Thousands of wolves filled the valley below. Some in human form. Others already shifted into massive wolf forms. Weapons glinted beneath the storm clouds. Dravoryx stood beside Magnus, his enormous wings folded as he watched the army gather. “So many warriors,” the Devourer rumbled. Magnus crossed his arms. “And yet still not enough.” Dravoryx’s golden eyes gleamed. “You worry too much.” Magnus looked toward the distant Lycan kingdom. “The Moon-Bound has awakened.” Dravoryx smiled slowly. “Yes.” His voice dropped into a dark whisper. “I felt her power.” Magnus’ expression hardened. “Then we must crush the kingdom before she becomes stronger.” Dravoryx stretched his wings. Lightning flashed behind the mountains. “Very well.” The creature lifted his massive head toward the stormy sky. “Let the war begin.” In the valley below, thousands of rebel wolves howled together. Their voices echoed across the mountains like the call of an approaching apocalypse. And far away inside the palace, Aria looked toward the eastern horizon. Tomorrow, she would begin a dangerous journey. One that could decide the fate of the entire kingdom. Because somewhere beneath the eastern sea… Another guardian waited to awaken.
