Chapter 80: Decent of the Cataclysm

740 Words
The battlefield fell silent for a moment. Only the distant rumble of thunder echoed through the valley. Dust slowly drifted through the air after the massive explosion caused by Kael and Aria’s combined attack. A huge crater now scarred the ground where the energy wave had struck. At the center of it stood Dravoryx. His once-impenetrable scales were now cracked and shattered in several places. One of his massive wings hung torn and damaged, dripping dark energy like smoke rising from burning coal. For the first time since the battle had begun— The Devourer looked wounded. But instead of fear… He was laughing. The low, rumbling sound rolled across the battlefield like thunder. “You finally managed to hurt me,” Dravoryx growled, his burning red eyes glowing brighter. “But you still don’t understand.” Dark energy began pouring out of the cracks in his body again. Not leaking. Exploding. The ground around him started trembling violently. Deep fractures spread across the earth as if the land itself feared what was about to happen. Aria’s silver eyes widened. “Something’s wrong.” Kael stepped forward protectively beside her. His massive wolf form remained powerful, but even he could feel the sudden shift in the air. “This power…” “It’s increasing again,” he growled. Darius, standing a short distance away, frowned deeply as he observed the Devourer. “Not just increasing,” he muttered. “He’s losing control.” Dravoryx slowly lifted his enormous head toward the dark sky. The storm above him seemed to answer his movement. Lightning crashed violently through the clouds, illuminating his monstrous form again and again. “You believe wounding me will save this world?” he roared. The cracks across his scales began glowing with a blinding crimson light. Dark flames erupted from his body. The Devourer spread his remaining wing wide. “Then watch closely.” His voice deepened, becoming almost inhuman. “Because if I fall…” His claws lifted toward the sky. “Everything falls with me.” The vortex of storm clouds suddenly began spinning faster than ever before. A massive sphere of black lightning began forming high above the battlefield. It grew larger every second. Larger than the previous storm attack. Larger than anything they had seen before. Aria felt the pressure building in the air like a crushing weight on her chest. “That energy…” Her voice trembled slightly. “It could destroy the entire kingdom.” Kael’s eyes narrowed. “We can’t let him release that.” Darius looked up at the growing sphere and sighed quietly. “Well,” he said. “This is extremely inconvenient.” Dravoryx’s roar shook the sky. “This is the Cataclysm!” The sphere above continued expanding until it looked like a dark sun hanging in the sky. Lightning spiraled around it like violent serpents. The air itself began cracking with unstable energy. Far across the battlefield, the remaining Lycan warriors watched in horror. Commander Roran gripped his sword tightly. “If that attack falls…” He didn’t finish the sentence. No one needed to hear it. Everyone understood. There would be nothing left. Aria closed her eyes for a moment. The crescent mark on her skin began glowing brighter again. The Moon’s power responded to the overwhelming darkness above. She could feel the energy inside her rising. Stronger. Brighter. But also dangerous. Too much power could tear her apart. Kael noticed the sudden increase in her aura. “Aria…” She opened her glowing silver eyes. Her expression had changed. More focused. More determined. “We have to stop it before it falls.” Kael stepped beside her. His Alpha markings glowed intensely again. “Then we do it together.” The bond between them surged once more. Silver and gold energy spiraled around their bodies like twin storms. Darius glanced at them and smirked faintly. “Well,” he said. “I suppose this is the part where the heroes attempt the impossible.” High above them, the dark sphere continued growing. Dravoryx’s laughter echoed across the battlefield. “You are too late!” The Cataclysm had almost reached its full power. And once it fell— Nothing in the kingdom would survive. But on the ground below… Kael and Aria stood ready. Their combined power rising to its highest point yet. Because the next attack… Would decide the fate of the world.
