Chapter 63: Clash with the Devourer

538 Words
The valley shook under the march of the Lycan army. Thousands of warriors moved forward across the open land, their armor glinting beneath the pale morning sun. The forest ahead was dark and silent. Too silent. Kael rode at the front of the army on his massive black horse, his sword resting against his shoulder. Aria rode beside him, her cloak flowing behind her in the wind. Commander Roran and the elite warriors followed closely behind. No one spoke. Every warrior could feel it. The presence waiting for them inside the forest. Suddenly— CRACK! A massive tree snapped in half deep within the woods. The army slowed. Another loud crash followed. Then another. Kael raised his hand. The entire army stopped instantly. The ground began to tremble. Heavy footsteps echoed from within the forest. THUD. THUD. THUD. Aria gripped the reins of her horse tightly. “He’s coming.” Kael’s golden eyes remained fixed ahead. “Hold your ground.” The trees suddenly exploded outward. A gigantic black shape burst from the forest. The Devourer had arrived. Dravoryx towered over the battlefield like a living mountain. His black scales shimmered like dark armor under the sunlight, and his massive wings stretched across the sky. The army stared in stunned silence. Even the bravest warriors looked small before the creature. Then Dravoryx opened his glowing red eyes. He looked directly at the army. And he laughed. The deep sound rolled across the valley like thunder. “So these are the Lycans.” His voice shook the air itself. Aria’s breath caught. “He can speak…” Kael slowly dismounted his horse. “So can we.” Dravoryx’s eyes shifted toward Aria. The moment he saw the glowing crescent mark on her wrist, his smile widened. “Ah…” His voice became darker. “The Moon’s Chosen.” Aria felt a cold wave of fear pass through her chest. Dravoryx leaned forward slightly, studying her like prey. “I wondered when I would meet you.” Kael stepped forward immediately, placing himself between them. “You’ll go through me first.” Dravoryx chuckled. “A king protecting his little moon.” The creature suddenly spread his massive wings. The powerful wind knocked several warriors backward. “Very well,” Dravoryx said. His glowing eyes burned with excitement. “Let the war begin.” He slammed his claw into the ground. BOOM! The earth cracked beneath the impact. Dark energy spread across the battlefield. Suddenly— Hundreds of shadow creatures burst from the forest behind him. Monstrous wolves, twisted beasts, and winged horrors filled the sky. Commander Roran shouted immediately. “ARCHERS!” Hundreds of arrows shot into the air. The battle had begun. Kael’s body suddenly shifted. His massive black wolf form burst forward with a thunderous roar. Aria raised her glowing hands. Silver moonlight began swirling around her fingers. Across the battlefield, Lycans clashed with monsters. Steel met claws. Roars filled the air. But above them all stood Dravoryx. Watching. Waiting. And far behind the battlefield, hidden on a rocky cliff… Darius observed the chaos below. His calm smile returned. “Perfect,” he whispered. The war had finally started. And everything was unfolding exactly as he planned.
