Chapter 64: The King Against the Monster

645 Words
The battlefield had turned into chaos. Roars, screams, and the clash of weapons echoed across the valley as the Lycan army fought the monstrous creatures pouring out of the forest. Arrows filled the sky. Claws tore through armor. The ground was stained with dust and blood. At the center of it all stood the massive shadow of the Devourer. Dravoryx watched the battle like a god observing insects. His glowing red eyes scanned the battlefield with amusement. “So fragile,” he rumbled. Below him, Kael’s massive black wolf form tore through two shadow beasts in a single leap. His claws ripped through their dark bodies, scattering black smoke into the air. But even as the monsters fell, more of them rushed forward. “Hold the line!” Commander Roran shouted. Lycan warriors pushed back against the creatures, refusing to retreat. Aria stood behind the front lines, her hands glowing with silver light. Moon energy gathered around her like swirling mist. She thrust her hands forward. A beam of bright moonlight shot across the battlefield. BOOM! The blast struck a group of shadow creatures, disintegrating them instantly. Several warriors turned toward her in awe. “The Moon’s Chosen!” But their celebration ended quickly. Because Dravoryx had noticed her. The massive creature lowered his head slowly. His red eyes locked onto Aria. “Interesting,” he growled. In one sudden movement, he lifted his enormous claw and slammed it toward the battlefield. CRASH! The earth exploded as the ground shattered beneath the impact. Warriors were thrown backward by the shockwave. Aria stumbled but managed to stay on her feet. Then something massive moved in front of her. Kael. He had shifted back into his human form, standing between her and the Devourer. His armor was scratched and covered with dust, but his golden eyes burned with fury. “You will not touch her.” Dravoryx leaned closer. The creature’s enormous face filled the sky above them. “So this is the Lycan king.” Kael raised his sword. “You’ve destroyed enough.” Dravoryx laughed. The sound shook the air. “I have only just begun.” Then the monster attacked. His massive claw came crashing down toward Kael. Kael leaped forward instead of retreating. His blade flashed through the air. CLANG! The sword struck Dravoryx’s dark scales. The impact sent sparks flying. But the scales barely cracked. Kael landed and immediately dodged the creature’s second attack. The ground shattered where the claw struck. Aria watched in horror. “He can’t fight that thing alone.” Kael jumped again, slicing across the Devourer’s leg. This time the blade left a small cut. Dark smoke rose from the wound. Dravoryx’s eyes flared with anger. “You dare wound me?” His tail swung across the battlefield like a giant whip. Kael barely avoided it as the attack crushed several large stones nearby. Aria clenched her glowing hands. “I won’t let him fight alone.” The crescent mark on her wrist began glowing brighter than ever before. Silver light spread across her arms. The wind around her began to swirl. Several warriors stepped back in shock. “What is she doing?” Aria raised both hands toward the sky. “Moon Goddess… hear me.” The clouds above slowly began to part. Bright moonlight broke through the daylight sky. Dravoryx noticed immediately. His red eyes narrowed. “Ah… so the child calls her goddess.” Aria’s voice grew stronger. “Give me the strength to protect them.” The silver light around her exploded outward. Across the battlefield, every warrior turned toward her. Even Kael paused mid-battle. For the first time… Aria’s power was truly awakening. And far away on the rocky cliff overlooking the battlefield… Darius watched everything carefully. His smile slowly widened. “Yes,” he whispered. “That’s exactly what I needed.”
