Chapter 4

Frank quickly reached out to block her, but was a second too late, only managing to touch her smooth forehead. With a thud, Emily felt a sharp pain and covered the back of her head, glaring at him with a hint of anger, "Why did you scare me?" If he hadn’t suddenly spoken, she wouldn’t have hit her head. Frank drew his hand and looked over her, ensuring she was okay, before adjusting his posture and saying calmly, "Sit properly." That’s it? She’d hit her head, and he didn’t even apologize. Emily was annoyed by his indifferent attitude and pointed at her head, "You should apologize for my head." Frank didn’t even lift his eyelids, "You hit it yourself." "If you hadn’t startled me, would I have bumped into it?" Frank turned his face slightly, as if to smile, "I startled you???" Thinking about how she was startled, Emily was momentarily speechless. But she was still upset and insisted, "I just looked at you a bit more. What, you’re so good-looking that you don’t want people to look at you?" Frank: "......" The car drove smoothly on the road, and Emily sat on the far right side of the seat, trying to distance herself as much as possible from him. Her eyes were fixed on the scenery outside the window, the quiet interior of the car starkly contrasting with the bustling city center outside. Couples walking hand-in-hand on the roadside, immersed in their sweet romance, wore happy smiles that made onlookers feel content. Without comparison, there would be no harm. Emily touched the back of her head again. The pain was gone, but she wasn’t happy. What kind of person was this? Not even a single kind word, such a waste of good looks. She turned her body, facing away from him, to avoid seeing him. Frank glanced sideways at her and then casually looked away after observing the dark spot on her head. Emily felt his gaze and turned back to look at Frank. He was leaning back with his hands on his crossed legs, eyes half-closed, his shirt collar unbuttoned revealing his sexy collarbone. His lips were slightly pursed, appearing a bit tired. It seemed that her earlier feeling of being watched was just an illusion; he wasn’t looking at her. Realizing his hectic work schedule,Emily unconsciously relaxed her breathing and adjusted her sitting position carefully. Her phone vibrated with a loud buzz in the quiet car, making the sound seem magnified.Emily hurriedly set it to silent. Frank was still awakened by the noise, his eyes opening slightly as he glanced ahead without saying anything. Who was messaging her at that hour? Emily opened the message to see that Sean, Frank’s assistant, had sent her a document. She opened the file to find a summary of Sean about Frank's unexpected attendance at the fashion charity gala after landing, and how Rachel had approached him. It detailed why he attended the event and summarized the conversation between Rachel and Frank. When they got married, Sean would send Emily Frank's schedule so that they could better play their roles in front of both families. Earlier, Emily suspected Rachel had been rejected by Frank, and she was planning to ask him about Rachel's reason for approaching him. Sean’s summary clarified everything, avoiding unnecessary misunderstandings between the couple that might affect the collaboration between Mr. RyanandSY. It seemed that having a distant, unemotional husband had its benefits; he wasn’t easily swayed by scheming people. Emily read and re-read Frank's response to not knowing Rachel's father, feeling pleased. Rachel thought about changing her surname to Ryan and called Mr. Ryan's father would give her an edge. It was one thing to flaunt it in front of uninformed people, but it was a different story to use it on Frank. She deserved to be put in her place. Emily Disliked Rachland enjoyed seeing her fail. As for Frank, who had put Rachaelin in her place, he seemed much more pleased. Thinking about how she had bumped her head earlier, it seemed she had been distracted by his good looks and was sulking unnecessarily. Considering how Frank had been so indifferent to Rachel, Emily decided to initiate a conversation. "People at the banquet were guessing who had such an impressive reputation that even a star-studded charity event could attract Mr. Frank. Could it be that you were specifically here to pick me up?" Emily smiled and looked at him with innocent eyes. Frank paused for a moment and said, "James invited me to discuss business." A predictable answer. Emily wasn’t surprised at all. For a workaholic like him, attending such events was likely for business purposes. Summer had clearly watched too many romance dramas to have thought otherwise.
