Emily waited for more than ten minutes before sending a question mark.
After a while, Frank replied.
[I’m not home.]
Emily: [When will you be back?]
Frank: [Busy. I won’t be home tonight.]
Emily: “...”
He’s not coming home tonight?
Then why did he text her asking when she’d be home?
The worst part is, if he doesn’t come home, how is she supposed to butter him up to get him to help persuade Robin to do the magazine shoot?
Normally, when Frank said he was busy, Emily would stay quiet and not bother him. But with the cover model needing to be finalized at the Monday meeting, Emily thought it over for a moment and sent another message.
[Remember to take care of your health while working. Pulling all. Nighters is bad for you, so try not to work too late. If it’s urgent and you have to deal with it tonight, I can pack some food and bring it to you at the office. There’s a nearby restaurant that makes great bone broth.]
Frank: [No need. I’m not at the office.]
Emily: [Where are you?]
Frank: [Busy. Not chatting.]
Once again, Frank killed the conversation.
Emily stared at Frank’s message, so frustrated that she almost threw her phone.
She had been so considerate, chatting with him, yet he responded with such impatience.
Is he even human?
Summer tried to console her, "Well, you weren’t really concerned about him anyway. Maybe your sudden change in attitude confused him, and he got shy, so he just made up an excuse."
Emily said, "With Frank’s personality, if he didn’t want to reply, he simply wouldn’t. He wouldn’t bother making up excuses."
"Then he’s probably genuinely busy. After all, he’s running a huge corporation. He doesn’t have time to play along with your little charade."
Despite this reasoning, Emily couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
Her relationship with Frank had always been lukewarm, maintaining a distant cohabitation. Since their marriage, Frank hadn’t come home often, but that was usually because he was on business trips and couldn’t make it back. Whenever he was in town, he never stayed out overnight.
There was one time he worked late at the office, coming home at 4 a.m., only to catch a flight abroad an hour later.
According to the schedule Sean sent, Frank didn’t have any international trips planned. So why couldn’t he even make time to come home?
And usually, when Frank was busy with other work, Sean would let her know. But now, with Frank not in the office and treating her with such cold indifference. Bordering on annoyance, and with no updates from Sean, Emily couldn’t help but sense that something was amiss.
She raised her head, her expression serious. "Do you think he’s cheating?"
Summer: “...”
Emily narrowed her eyes, recalling how Frank had been acting strangely since he returned from the old family home yesterday. He had been cold and irritable, as if looking for a fight. If it weren’t for her good temper, they might have argued last night.
They say when a man has another woman outside, he becomes colder toward the one at home. Frank’s recent behavior fits the pattern perfectly. Plus, yesterday they talked about having children. Mr. Ryan mentioned wanting to hold a great-grandchild by next year, and Frank agreed. Even after she made it clear she wasn’t having kids, he still didn’t seem to think there’d be a problem with having a great-grandchild by next year.
The more Emily thought about it, the more convinced she became that Frank was seeing someone else and planning to have a child with her.
Summer saw that Emily was serious and put away her usual playful attitude, frowning. "I don’t think he’s the type to cheat."
Emily let out a cold laugh, her face darkening, and her tone grew chilly. "There are plenty of hypocrites out there who look decent on the surface. You can’t judge whether a man will cheat just by appearances."
If you judged by appearances alone, who would have guessed that her father, who seemed so responsible, was actually supporting another woman outside, causing their once harmonious family to fall apart?
Summer knew how sensitive Emily was about cheating due to her father’s actions, so she suggested, "Maybe you should ask him again where he is?"
Emily nodded and picked up her phone to send a message.
But she didn’t message Frank; she sent it to Sean.
Like a 24-hour robot, Sean responded almost instantly.
[Mr. Frank went to Crown Club with Robin.]
Emily’s eyes lit up when she saw Sean’s message.
Frank is at Crown Club, with Robin!!!
What a pleasant surprise.
She had been worried that Robin might be abroad, making it inconvenient to ask for his help. But he’s right here in the country. What a lucky break.
She grabbed her purse and, with a triumphant smile, said to Summer, "I’ve got the bill. Take your time with your meal; I’m heading out."
Summer blinked, "Where are you going? To catch him in the act?"
Emily tossed her hair and flashed a seductive smile, "I’m going to Crown Club, to meet my husband’s friends and see if he’s been up to anything naughty."
Summer: “...”
So, catching your husband cheating isn’t as important as meeting his friends?
