Although she still didn't agree with Emily going against Rachel, seeing Emily's determination, she somehow felt confident that even if Autumn had Rachel on her side, Emily would still come out on top.
"So, what do we do now?"
Emily tapped on her computer screen. Lily got up and walked around to stand behind Emily's seat. When she saw what Emily was searching on the webpage, the confidence she had just built up started to waver.
Emily was currently searching for the top-tier celebrities in the country.
When they were in the meeting room earlier, Emily had said she already had a suitable candidate in mind. Lily thought Emily had a solid plan and was just holding back from revealing her cards too soon. But now it seemed like she was really just bluffing to compete with Autumn.
Lily pulled up a chair and sat next to Emily, joining her in looking at the screen.
Although there are many female celebrities in the entertainment industry, only a few truly count as top-tier. Just one glance was enough to have a clear idea.
"Emily, although these celebrities are more popular and have bigger followings than Rachel, they've already been on our magazine. And Rachel is one of our company's artists. The editor-in-chief has pretty much already decided on her. If we want to win, we'd have to invite a megastar, someone so popular that just being on the magazine cover would make headlines. That's the only way the editor-in-chief would have no excuse to choose Rachel."
The more Lily thought about it, the more she felt there was little hope in this competition. The final decision on the candidate would be made next week, and there wasn’t much time left to invite a megastar.
Emily raised an eyebrow. "I'll give you one second to name a megastar in the entertainment industry."
"Robin."
Robin, a legendary superstar in the country, has excelled in multiple fields—singing, acting, you name it. The awards he's won in the music and film industries are enough to place him at the top of the industry's pyramid. He's a legend in the entertainment world, with countless fans. He became famous at a young age and, after going through all sorts of experiences, is still not even thirty. He's undoubtedly at the top of the game.
After Lily said his name, she looked at the bright sparkle in Emily's eyes and asked in disbelief, "You’re not thinking of inviting him, are you?"
Emily’s eyes curved into a smile, not confirming nor denying it.
Lily held her head in her hands, "Oh no, Emily, you've lost it."
"Why? Do you think inviting him wouldn’t be enough to outshine Rachel?"
Lily replied, "Rachel would be nothing compared to Robin! If the editor-in-chief chose Rachel over Robin, his career as editor-in-chief would be over. Robin's fans would drown him in a sea of spit."
Emily leaned back in her chair, "So, there you have it."
"What do you mean, 'there you have it'? That’s not the point! The point is, how can we possibly get Robin?"
"You haven’t tried yet, so how do you know we can’t get him?"
Lily’s voice grew more agitated, "Everyone knows that after his world tour last year, Robin announced he was going abroad to study with no definite return date. He hasn’t been seen in public since then. It's said that even his manager can't reach him. Where are we supposed to find him?"
Emily remained calm, "We’ll just have to try."
"..."
Since Emily said they’d try, Lily had given up trying to talk her out of it because Emily had given her a task, and the heavy workload successfully kept her quiet.
Emily spent the whole day working on her original plans to free up time over the next few days to figure out how to invite Robin. For the first time, she stayed late at the office instead of leaving on the dot.
It wasn’t until Summer texted her that she realized she had been working an hour past closing time.
Summer: [Have you had dinner?]
Emily: [No, I’m working late.]
Summer: [Is your work that busy?]
Emily: [Not really, just dealing with something. Are you free now? Let’s meet up and talk.]
Summer: [Sure, let’s go for hot pot together.]
They hit it off, and twenty minutes later, they were sitting across from each other at a hot pot restaurant in the city center. After listening to Emily’s story about what happened that day, Summer rolled up her sleeves and started cursing Rachel passionately, standing up for Emily.
"That manipulative snake is really shameless! She knows you don’t like her, but she still keeps trying to get under your skin. She’s deliberately misleading people at your company into thinking she’s the eldest daughter of the Ryan family. Ugh, with her fake, sweet act, she doesn't deserve it."
"I think you should just go public with your identity so that the snake can’t go around using it to deceive people."
Emily shook her head, "No, I can’t. My dad and I are still not on speaking terms. If I reveal that I’m his daughter now, it’d be like admitting defeat."
"But you can’t just let her keep disgusting you like this. What are you going to do?"
Emily: "I’m planning to invite Robin for the year-end special."
"Cough." Summer nearly spat out her water, choking.
Emily quickly handed her a tissue to wipe her mouth.
"What’s wrong? Why are you so worked up?"
Emily looked at Summer in surprise.
Summer wiped her mouth clean and then sat up straight, her eyes flickering, "Nothing, I was just surprised. How did you think of inviting him? He should be hard to reach, right? I heard he went abroad to study and isn’t even in the country. How are you going to find him?"
Emily waved her phone, smiling. "Because out of all the stars I could think of, he’s the biggest. And it just so happens that he has a good relationship with Frank. When Frank and I got married, he was the best man."
As soon as she finished speaking, Summer snatched the phone from her hand, holding it like a treasure, "If you have this connection, why didn’t you say so earlier? You must have his contact info, right? Just send him a message."
She opened Emily's phone, clicked on the w******p contacts, and asked, "Which one is Robin? Did you save his name?"
"Well..." Emily laughed awkwardly, "At the time, Frank added me to a group, and Robin did send me a friend request. But since I wasn’t that close to Frank, I didn’t think it was necessary to connect with his friends, so I didn’t accept it."
Summer: "..."
