Nodding with bated breath. They stood still.
18061819's attention began to adjust as he got the control on the grip of the blade's handle, and a second later as soon as the door was left wide–open.
A large shadow charged onto him, its harsh ripping, low growls are full of hunger.
It went off straight to meet the edge of his scythe with that long sharpened fangs making an attempt to regain the foothold between them.
Eyes similar to his are staring back as it reflects the unnerving menace of a predator toward its prey. A gasp could be heard behind.
His pupil moved and caught the sight of rushing beasts striding forward. 18061829's lips pinched, tightening the hold on his grasp, and his right foot took a step back at the other side as he made another tread to make a suspended strike.
He went at a fast pace, slashing it down, and went to other zombies.
The unexpected and instantaneous movement has left people in awe and lost in their thoughts.
Disgusting blood spewed from the infected beasts, along with the familiar stain of a color red spurting out from the infected colleagues, and it was now sprinkling onto the tainted floor.
As he cleared a path through the unlighted hallway, the floor was bathed in gut-churning flesh.
"It stinks." Somebody can't help letting out loud as the strong scent lingers in the air.
As long as they can still remember it correctly, the infected living flesh wouldn't become this repellent.
"Was it really like this when after hours of infection? I feel like I was going to puke out all the food I consumed this morning..."
" The seniors from another team who always went out with outside tasks have the habit of saying they will have to get a bath after going back from any kind of appointed mission, so maybe it is really like this."
"Then, if I have survived this situation, I will make sure to think about my next profession." Farhana listened to the others as they kept on walking at a small distance away from 18061819. It didn't take that long until the hallway filled with scratching noises and deep growls turned into the sounds of their heels.
Ahead of them is the only figure of a mysterious person they had never heard from anyone's mouth, and yet his sudden appearance gave a little hope for their group whose deaths are maybe not far away.
He looked over, watching 18061819's swung his scythe toward the group of infected humans that have become man-eating zombies at this point. Once, each of them had the chance to talk or see these people, yet to this time they're nothing but scattered flesh and dirt beneath their shoes.
Farhana suddenly had the urge to vomit, and there are flashback memories of his fellow team members screaming out for help rising into his head. It made him abruptly stop in his tracks.
As his breathing grew more shallow, feeling a bit lightheaded, and soon more and more internal pain from his inside began to pulse one after another.
If it weren't for Deserell noticing his absence, then Farhana would surely fall onto the ground in no time.
"Brother Far?" Hugging his arms as he was being supported to stand enough, Deserell kept calling. "What is wrong? Brother Far? Can you hear me?"
Not getting any response. The others have started to come forward. "What's wrong with him?"
"I don't know," Deserell informed almost sounding as if he was going to cry out any second. "He just stopped walking, and then he was not answering me anymore."
"Oy, Farhana? What's wrong with you?"
"Junior Vani?" No words could make it to his ears, and Farhana's hearing has become more sluggish while the others circled around him.
Then without a warning, he lost his consciousness to the darkness. A taller senior took part in supporting Farhana body as Deserell's height isn't comparable to anyone here. Getting close to the other's warmth, there was a surprised intake. "He is burning up!"
"What?"
" He seems to be having a fever?"
"Why would he? Isn't he just alright a while ago?" Others decided to give it a try and check as they touched Farhana's forehead. It almost burned their skin with just a slight touch. That earned a series of doubts and questions inside their mind. Why was he suddenly getting sick?
Meanwhile, Jane does not give a damn about what is happening with Farhana as she impatiently points the flashlight toward the group of men. "Our mysterious savior is going away if you continue stalling there!"
"You—don't point the focus of the light at our faces." Yuheiyo shouted harshly at the female who's been getting on his nerves since the beginning.
After that, he got back to his seniors and decided the matter without any unnecessary explanation. "I'll carry Farhana at my back, and we can continue following that person."
"Well, then trouble you, Junior." They agreed, and then went back to threading the danger by following that unknown figure.
Only they cannot deny the fact that just having that certain person would give them a chance to get out of this place, and since those military soldiers left them here without looking back.
They will not wait inside that broken communication room again and would strive to find a way to leave. When the group was able to catch up to 18601819's, they found him in front of the elevator.
Unknowingly, he is just standing in front of the metal doors looking as if he is waiting for it to open.
A question mark seemingly appeared above on the young researcher's head as they were also waiting for the other to do something.
"Um..." Deserell had the courage to speak up with a shy reluctance.
"We can't use that, the power has been cut off."
"An i***t is an i***t. Do you think he doesn't know that?" Yuheiyo taunted in annoyance.
Deserell shook his head falling under the impression that if he talks back at this hateful colleague of his, it will only lower people's IQ.
He glanced over the shoulder to check the unconscious Farhana, and murmured apologetically. "Brother Far, please endure it for now. Having a crochety person to carry you at this moment of your situation is surely not comfortable experience for you."
"Nonsense!" Yuheiyo blurted.
Subconsciously he jerks his head to look at the sleeping person on his back. Farhana isn't awake nor has any reactions, but it still made him feel more conscious of his next movements.
Standing beside him is Deserell who lightly chuckled after observing him and muttered, "Idiot."
"Are we going to stay here now?" Jane tutted.
"Look, he isn't even moving—" she was stopped midway when 18061819 had suddenly struck the elevator doors that left the group speechless.
They are never ready for that kind of action, yet, since when they had decided to leave the room, at least each of them knows how to collect their souls out of shock. Waiting for the sounds of falling materials to end as they unexpectedly heard something like a high-pitched voice down below the elevator's pathway, and the seniors quickly stride over to take a look.
Using the grabbed flashlight from Jane's hand, they found the elevator's car had seemingly stopped at the unknown floor.
"Is there someone down there?" Senior Lu asked 18061819. But, the person they thought would give or say a word had turned to walk away toward the direction of the staircase.
With that, an annoyed expression showed on his face as he uttered, "Damn it, why isn't he saying anything."
"Let's try to shout." suggested by someone and started doing so.
"Then what about him?" Jane was looking at where 18061819 went off to, as others were trying to pick up any sound down the elevator's car.
