AGAINST ONE

1580 Words
Unseen. Veiled. It was something expected, but this one, which even they couldn't see, was on another level than what they had ever imagined. After hearing the last report from District Four, it was clear that their opponents are the same and have no intention of letting anyone leave this island. When 18061819 (Six) looked up at the sky again, it wasn't as blue or bright as he remembered. In spite that it was only noon, the clouds were all over the sky today. Though there was little wind because trees are scarce in the area, a normal human can still inhale enough oxygen to survive outside for almost four to three days. As for himself, he was known as the Human Code Subject. He doesn't need much of it. Continuing the path toward the west, he can hear murmurs, soft-cries, and people whispering to each other. He passed at the aftermath of what happened between humans and those living machines as he walked down the broken road. The most are dead bodies of humans were strewn and scattered everywhere. Who—whose deaths were never in vain fighting against til the end. The next steps have become more and more like a memory breaking out from somewhere at the back of his mind. A young man was dragging his feet somewhere, but all he could see was a road sullied with a liquid of red and black, and it was painting the path from behind him, and what awaited him was the same. Is this a flashback? He came to a complete stop. Taking a look down at the black boots. It wasn't a pair of filthy, marred bare feet. He didn't like any of the images he was shown at the time. He was about to take another step when a fast-moving light beam crossed into him, barely missing his nose. It moved the strands of hair on the side of his face. Looking around, he notices a pair of machines approaching from the other side, and they begin firing their deadly burning light beams at him. 18061829 (Six) easily avoided the attack as he took a step back and swayed his blade in defense. His blade expresses mild displeasure as it pulses to him. It's as if saying it doesn't want this kind of treatment. Being shielded him against something the machines were shooting at him. It irritates the blade. Giving 18061819 (Six) quite a hard time because it kept whispering over his head that its host found unsuitable to listen to. So, when another sway of his, he approached the machines with no qualms about cutting them up. Accidentally, stepping on one of the machine body parts. At first glance, it appears to be a kind of metal, but it is nothing like the metals found on Earth. Ignoring it, he continued on his way. Until he walked into the open ground at a location that had to be a kind of a training ground for military soldiers, of course, this location was also where the so called, "Tower of Light" had made its appearance. If you look up from the ground, a person might think it is a light that started from the sky because you can't see the other end behind the clouds. In another way, when one stands in front of it, as 18061819 (Six) does, it does not show the other side but only the color white, and thus its light. It's impossible to tell what's possibly on the other side of it unless you walk around with it. 18061819 (six) have no intention of going through with it or crossing it. He only knows that on another side there stands one of the building facilities that appeared to have been left on purpose, and he can sense a lot of people. Before he could even take a step forward, in less than a minute, rows of living machines began to emerge from the Tower of Light, but they did not immediately attack him. Instead each of them takes a position like good soldiers waiting for orders. 18061819 (Six) held the blade, his red eyes fixed on what was in front of him. And what happened next was something he had never expected. More than a dozen young people begin to walk away from the Tower of Light, all of whom look like very harmless researchers; wearing a white coat that some have stained with human blood. For a while, they appeared dazed. Until, as if jolted awake by the click of someone's finger. They were able to wake and realize the gravity of their situation. Dread and horror washed over their faces as they crammed next to each other. Not sure what is going on. Only they were aware that their situation was life threatening. A young man was looking around and shaking, and he accidentally met another pair of eyes of 18061819 (Six). With that, as soon as the colors of red and black collide, the person begins to scream hysterically. Another person caught the similar sight and was also on the verge of crying out. But, some people stopped their colleagues in doing so, inhaling their breath, with fear that they will be targeted by the machines around them. Wary eyes are fixed on the standing threat. Even if they tried to flee, they know such a chance is like water in the dessert. That means they without a doubt will surely end up falling to their quick deaths being vaporized in not less than milliseconds. 18061819 (Six) screened the area, but there was no indication of any unusual presence that wasn't human. As the second count starts, there is silence. That once you ever drop a pin onto the ground, it will make a noticeable sound. "What is it...who is it?" "I'm not sure." "But it has their eyes." "Shh... don't be too loud." "But, what if they kill us?" "Then you wish they wouldn't." All of the whispers have reached his ears. Results in his understanding that the 'Destroyer' was behind all of this. 1806189 (Six) is not sure why, but the thought of those otherworldly beings has rekindled his heartbeat over again. Making him clench the blade so hard and tight. Even if the life force in his palm wants to complain. It stopped pulsing as soon as after noticing the host's strange welling up heartbeats. That has triggered as one of the human researchers in the group was suddenly targeted by the laser beams without any warning and soon it vaporized in less than a minute. Shock and screams followed. But the people's bodies remained frozen in place. No one has ever had the courage to move. They were too terrified. Say, what can they do against these huge, taller machines. They were just ordinary people whose normal heights did not even exceed two meters. This. . .this world of them is becoming more unrecognizable. "I...I don't want to die." There was a hush, and the lips shook. Then, in the blink of an eye, a silhouette of 18061819 (Six) appeared before their eyes, breaking the silence. He moved at such a breakneck pace that people couldn't even keep up, and no one chose blinking in fear they would just drop dead. Before they knew it, such a big mass had fallen to the ground, creating loud noises one after another. Without any second's delay, those other machines begin to fire their weapon and beams. Even targeting the human group that was too afraid to move out of their location. 18061819's (Six) almost clicked his tongue, as if it were his habit, however, not being able to do so, he simply gave the group an eye contact at the exact time he raised his left arm. The thick white ribbon was wrapping around his slender arm underneath of his cheongsam's wide sleeves and began to unleash as dark drops of blood were carried it into the air while he was dodging another machine's attack. His ribbon was long enough, and it completely circled the group above their heads. By the waved of his hand to their side, the continuous blood flowing out from the bare skin under his sleeves flew straight onto it. His dark blood began expanding above the people's heads in the shape of a circle under the guidance of the white ribbon, and then it covered the humans like a globe of shield, but the dark color of it is a bit scary, even though it's defensing every beam that is aimed at them. The people inside the dark circle of blood can be heard gasping as they notice a wall of darkness almost like black steel. It was protecting them from harm every time the beam attempting to penetrates. That cannot even cross it, and no sound of penetration can be heard. It held too much strength against the attacks that even the machines aiming it had to work together. Without getting a clue, the one who was actually receiving their attacks were 18061819 (six) who felt a little physical pain from all of it. Yet that doesn't hindrance him to continue fighting another three and five machines at the same time. He kept swinging the blade again and again. To s***h everything into pieces in the air or on the ground. He never stops moving at his pace, and the desire to annihilate began to take shape in his mind.
