‘An abuser's best weapon isn't physical hits but the ability to make victims doubt his or her own perceptions, memories, and sanity’
Those words were perfectly right and although I'm not so sure of who originally quoted those words, I won't deprive him or her the rightful credits they deserve.
It was happening to me!
Everything that had happened was planned and now, it's looking like I'm indeed the murderer of the deceased.
I was very sure, the man at the restaurant isn't Chief Larsson, he's probably one of Gina and Bella's cohorts.
The damn parcel I was called to receive that ended up implicating me wasn't even accepted by Gina.!
“You went to receive a parcel in what room?” the detective smirked.
“304” a tiny voice said in my head but I couldn't even say it out loud.
How was I supposed to?!..
That was the same room where Chief Larsson's dead body was found!..
Why didn't I think of all these when the reporter was broadcasting?!.. i guess I was just overwhelmed by the joy of having a wedding and didn't bother thinking deep.,
My tears resumed pouring out freely, their break ended already.
“Ms Finn?” The detective called and I looked to see him smirking.
“I didn't do it, I swear” my last two words were louder than the initial ones..
“But you were at the exact location where the deceased was killed. It's clearly evident even in your words that you followed him after your argument and stabbed him to death!” he raised his voice this time.
“No, I didn't!”I raised my voice too, crying bitterly.
“All these are just being pinned on me because I'm weak and inferior!” I added, hiccuping.
Everything was a planned coincidence made to frame me up!
With a smirk, the detective leaned in.
“It's my fifteenth year in this field and I've dealt with psychopaths, people who deny accusations with swears and all but ended up being guilty. I'm not moved by all these dramas of yours!” he said, smirking for the numberless time today.
My tears felt hot on my cheeks, probably because I was burning up.
Who was ever going to believe me?..
Almost immediately, the room's iron door opened, filling my ears with its creaking sound and I turned towards its direction immediately.
Another cop appeared with a laptop, making annoying sounds with his shoes and without a word to me, he sat on the empty chair beside me.
“Mrs Gina requested that the suspect be granted permission to watch something going on now,” he said to his colleague.
I hated the way I was being called a suspect. For Pete's sake, I had a name!
“Okay” Detective Sam simply said while we both watched the officer operate the laptop for about a minute.
“What's that?” I thought.
Not long after, he stopped his operation and pressed a play button.
What I wasn't expecting came into view.
My wedding!!!..
I blinked my eyes repeatedly, assuming I was seeing things.
But I wasn't. My eyes weren't dysfunctional, I was watching a live video of my supposed wedding!
What baffled me most was that everything was going on smoothly and there wasn't any activity that made it seem like the bride was missing.
Almost immediately, the aisle was shown and my confusion increased when I saw Alex smiling widely with a lady's arms intertwined with his.
That wasn't all, the bride was wearing my exact wedding dress!..
The one I left hanging on the mannequin but unfortunately, I couldn't see her face because of the veil.
I had no idea when five minutes passed and it was time for the exchange of vows, all I knew was that as each second passed, my heart skipped thousands of beats at once and my throbbing headache worsened.
“Annabella Finn, do you agree to take Alexander Doe as your lawfully wedded husband and be with him on better and worse days till death do you apart?” The priest's words left me breathless.
Bella was Impersonating me and getting married to my own groom?!!!!.
“No!!” I screamed inwardly as I heard her say ‘I do’.
Everyone knew me as Anna, and my step sister as Bella.
Of course this will arouse no suspicion and make them think ‘Annabella' is my full name, whereas I'm Annabelle.
It was so devastating to realize that our names and similar stature helped with the manipulation as well.
Can my fate be any better?, Even if it's just for once!
But, something wasn't clear. Isn't Alex supposed to detect the difference in the face?!!
“You may now kiss your bride”
My thoughts were interrupted by the priest's words and I felt my heart racing faster.
Oh heavens!..
No wonder I never saw Bella even till I left the hotel, she was preparing for the wedding!..
“Once he unveils her, he'll realize she's not his bride and then, the wedding will be stopped” I thought, really expecting that to happen
However, reality released a big blow when Bella turned out to have my own face after being unveiled.
What the hell–!!
My eyes flew madly wide. Well, it wasn't so wide as the way it was when Alex leaned in and claimed her lips..
That was my supposed-first kiss!..
I turned to the cops who were also watching and immediately, I reverted my gaze back to the laptop. Without thinking twice nor caring about any etiquette, I zoomed the video, wanting to confirm something and then my eyes caught it..
My eyes caught the zip of a silicone mask which she was using for the Impersonation!..
It was popping out of her hair which she even dyed to resemble mine.
My heart bled as I turned back to the cops who were still watching with no particular expression.
Isn't impersonation a crime?! Why aren't they saying anything about it!!.
Suddenly, the laptop went off and Detective Sam turned to me.
“Technology has made it easier for you to witness your twin's wedding despite being in the station” he said, and my brows instantly furrowed on their own.
My what?!!..
