Chapter 10
Zoe was waiting on the lawn, her stuff on the path, when Lorna’s SUV pulled up. Lorna stepped out as the door to the house opened, and Rufus galloped through it. Zoe grabbed his collar before he could rush Lorna.
“Behave, you crazy mutt,” she said. Rufus strained a bit but didn’t pull hard enough to break free. He didn’t bark at Lorna, just panted and looked as if he wanted to lick her. Zoe could at least sympathize with that urge. Tentatively Lorna reached for Rufus and patted his head. He sniffed her hand and licked it.
“The seal of approval,” Zoe said. “Ah…I told Mom and Dad about you. They’d like to say hello before we go. If that’s okay?”
