Phantom woke up the next day and he heard someone knocking on the door to the room he was in. Phantom growled, "Just open the damn door."
The person on the other side of the door opened it and Phantom saw that it was Megan. She saw him on the floor but she didn't question it, "I was wondering if you wanted to come eat breakfast."
Phantom sighed, "Fine." He got up and Megan left the room so she wouldn't get too close to Phantom and she went to the kitchen. Phantom stretched and realized that his arm was almost healed, he'd have to injure himself if he started having an episode again. He had wounds all the time so he could use those to cause himself pain but when he didn't he hurt himself.
He used small, sharp bits of ice to hurt himself so he didn't get out of control and end up attacking someone. Phantom shook the thoughts from his mind and walked out of the room and into the kitchen. The other had already gotten something to eat so Phantom just grabbed some toast and ate it.
He couldn't eat much since he wasn't used to it so eating small amounts every now and again was the most he could eat. He stayed in the kitchen while the others watched a movie on TV, Phantom wasn't sure what movie it was. Phantom watched the movie and because of his enhanced hearing he could make out what was being said.
It was an action movie which was obvious after the first ten minutes that Phantom had watched. Several minutes after the movie ended Phantom heard something from one of the other rooms. He knew that it was the zeta tubes since he had heard them before and he knew who had walked in.
It was Black Canary, the chick that doesn't understand personal space for some damn reason. The team all got up when they heard the zeta tubes say her name and Aqualad looked at Phantom. "Would you like to join us Phantom?"
Phantom raised an eyebrow, "Does it look like I have anything better to do?"
Aqualad smiled just a little, he was trying to be friendly, "I suppose not." Aqualad left and Phantom sighed before following the other teens to see what was going on. Phantom hung around near the doorway and watched Black Canary talk about training before she spotted him.
Was it wrong if he wanted to growl at her, he was pretty sure it was but she had nearly caused him to have an episode. Of course that just lead to him having an episode later because of Superman but he still wasn't happy. These guys really weren't making a good impression on him, at least the team wasn't that bad, the Leaguers were the ones causing him problems.
Black Canary smiled at him, Phantom didn't trust that smile, Maddie used to smile at him like that. That was before he became a halfa and she cut him open over, and over, and over again. He had to remind himself that Black Canary wasn't Maddie, he couldn't let what happened to him stop him from trying to trust others.
"Phantom, care to join us?"
Phantom had his arms crossed and his eyes glowed brighter for a brief second with curiosity. "Depends on what you're doing."
Black Canary put her hands on her hips, "We're doing combat training, if you want to join I'd be more then happy to be your partner."
Phantom thought for a second, "Fine." Phantom walked over to them and stood on the opposite side of Black Canary, he focused on his breathing. He used to be trained by the GIW, they were trying to get him to fight for them but he refused. He was fine with this as long as he stayed calm, fighting didn't cause him to have episodes for some strange reason.
Once the fight started Black Canary came at him and tried to punch him but he dodged it at the last second. Everyone seemed surprised but Black Canary still tried to punch him a second time which he easily dodged. She tried to fake him out by punching him but trying to trip him at the last second which also didn't work.
Phantom simply jumped and he silently landed behind her with his hands in his pockets. His hands had been in his pockets since the start of the fight and he didn't feel inclined to change that at the moment. Black Canary quickly moved to try and kick him from behind but he sidestepped and her attack missed.
Phantom turned to look at her just before she tried to punch him again which he expected. Phantom decided that it was time to switch from defensive to offensive and he grabbed her by the wrist. He used her momentum as well as his own strength to throw her over his shoulder and send her crashing to the ground on her back.
When the fight was finished and Phantom helped her up everyone was shocked. As soon as Black Canary was standing Phantom took several steps back, as soon as the fight is over it's back to his space bubble. All of the teens were staring at him in shock and it annoyed Phantom slightly since he left like he was being observed.
Black Canary seemed surprised but happy, "Where'd you learn to fight like that?"
Phantom shrugged, "Self taught, a lot of ghosts learn how to fight to protect themselves."
Kid Flash had a weird look on his face, "Which reminds me, ghosts can't be real right?"
Phantom looked at him, "Believe what you want but the fact that I don't have a heartbeat speaks volumes." Kid Flash wanted to respond to that but he didn't know how, it had just occurred to him that Phantom would have had to die to become a ghost. Phantom simply let it go, "I'm going to find something to do."
Phantom walked out of the room and began exploring and memorizing the layout. Phantom was actually smart despite what a lot of people thought, a few things had also boosted his brain power since he was captured. The GIW tested hundreds of drugs on him, some of them made him smarter so he might be a genius now.
He was also very resistant to the effects of different drugs and gases, trust me the GIW tried. As he was escaping they had filled the halls with knockout gas that had been twice as strong as it needed to be. Phantom had kept running and the agents were outraged as they ran after him, he found it just a little funny.
What? He had been experimented on and tortured by the bastards, he could laugh at the fact that they were angry as he was running away. Phantom thought they deserved it, they shouldn't be experimenting on ghosts and having one humiliate them was an added bonus. Phantom looked through several of the rooms, aside from the bedrooms, and eventually found a training room.
So they did training with Black Canary and had the option to train on their own. Phantom felt like a few of them hardly ever came into this room, well one in particular but who knows. Phantom looked at everything in the room and he spotted a wooden chair near the door and he shrugged before grabbing it.
He placed it somewhere with a bit more space around the chair before using his strength to balance on the back of the chair using nothing but his thumb. He tipped the chair so it was at a forty five degree angle from the ground and he focused on his balance for a moment. Once he was sure that he was completely balanced he bent his arm and got closer to the chair before straightening his arm again.
He had done this before he got caught, he put all of his focus into the exercise so he couldn't think about anything else. He did two thousand on one arm and once he was done he did two thousand on the other. He knew he could do more but he had only been trying to waste time and he had done that so he put the chair back.
A few seconds after he left the room KF ran up to him and Phantom raised an eyebrow. He couldn't help but wonder if they were just waiting around the corner watching him, that was a weird thought. KF looked at Phantom, "Batman asked me to find you." Phantom sighed and KF sped off to Clockwork knows where, at least they weren't irritating him, much.
Phantom walked into the room where the team was given missions, he knew this was where they were. Phantom walked in and Batman immediately looked at him, now he definitely felt like he was being observed. Batman spoke, "Now that Phantom's here, I'll give you your mission."
A screen popped up and there was a large warehouse that looked like it was in the middle of nowhere. "We received information that two groups are going to be exchanging weapons at this location. You need to find out who's involved and stop the weapons from being exchanged, you'll be leaving in three hours."
Phantom had his arms crossed and he shifted his weight to his left leg, his left leg was still hurt. "So why am I here?"
Batman looked at Phantom, "Because you're going with them."
Phantom rolled his eyes, "What makes you think I'd work well with a team, or anyone for that matter. Let's not forget the fact that I'm not even a part of the team, why the hell should I go?"
Batman didn't seemed phased, "Do you have something better to do?"
Phantom shrugged, "Fair point, fine, just keep in mind that this could end very badly." That wasn't even a threat, it's just that Phantom had never worked with a team before, he might not work well with this group. He had worked with ghosts before but they were never a team, he just worked with them because it had benefits for both parties.
This was going to be a disaster.
