The more Taylor struggled and begged, the more excited Mr. Lee became. Just as his disgusting lips were about to touch Taylor's, the door to the room suddenly flew open with a bang. Mr. Lee turned his head, and the lustful grin on his face froze as two men stood at the doorway.
One of them was elegant, exuding an undeniable air of nobility, while the other was so tall and broad that you had to look up to meet his eyes.
"Who are you? How dare you barge in here! Security!" Mr. Lee stood up in a fury, pointing at the two men while yelling.
Before Mr. Lee could say anything else, Jacob Read dashed forward, grabbed him by the collar, and tossed him aside. With a loud "thud," Mr. Lee hit the ground hard.
Taylor was still in shock. She stared at the two men who had burst in. Zac walked over to her, took off his jacket, and draped it over her shoulders. Seeing how Taylor was trembling, Zac felt that his heart nearly broke.
He spoke softly to her, "Don't worry, no one will hurt you anymore. Head downstairs now, and someone will take you home. I need to have a word with Mr. Lee."
As Zac got a better look at Taylor, his thoughts raced. He couldn't believe it—his fiancée was her!
Images from three years ago flashed through Zac's mind. Back then, he was on a mission abroad, ambushed by enemies and gravely injured. While on the run, just as he was about to lose consciousness, a girl gave him half a bottle of water and some bread. After his escape, Zac had sworn to find the girl who saved his life.
And now, that familiar, beautiful face was right in front of him. What stunned him even more was that they had been engaged all along. It felt like it was meant to be.
Taylor, on the other hand, was utterly confused. Who was this man, and why was he saying such things to her? She hesitated and asked, "Excuse me, but who are you?"
"I'm Zac Willis," he introduced himself.
Taylor thought to herself, 'Zac Willis? This name sounds familiar…' Then it hit her—her parents had arranged a fiancé for her, and his name was Zac too. Her expression became complicated.
Sensing her unease, Zac gently took Taylor's hand and led her toward the door, reassuring her as they walked. "Don't worry, I'll take care of everything here."
"You dared to ruin my fun!" Mr. Lee tried to get up, groaning in pain. "Do you even know who I am? If you don't get out right now, I'll call for help!"
Jacob walked over, grabbed Mr. Lee by the hair, and dragged him into the bedroom. "Weren't you looking for someone to sleep with? Well, here I am."
The room was dimly lit, and a large bed sat in the center.
With a powerful yank, Jacob lifted Mr. Lee off the ground. His body flew through the air before landing with a heavy thud on the bed.
Zac slowly walked in as well, sitting at the foot of the bed. With a smirk, he said to Mr. Lee, "I'll sleep with you too."
Jacob's mouth twitched slightly, thinking, 'If we were back in the Southern Territory, General Zac would never say something like that.'
"You two idi*ts better leave now! Or you'll regret it!" Mr. Lee shouted through gritted teeth as he struggled to catch his breath.
While he spoke, Mr. Lee reached for the drawer by the bedside, pulling out a knife. He lunged at Zac's neck with it, but Zac reacted swiftly, dodging to the side. Mr. Lee missed and fell awkwardly onto the bed.
Before he could recover, he felt the cold barrel of a gun pressed against his head. Jacob stood over him, expressionless, and asked coldly, "Mr. Lee, do you want to find out what regret feels like?"
At the sight of the gun, Mr. Lee's bravado vanished instantly. His eyes locked onto the weapon. The cold metal gleaming under the light, exuding a deadly aura that made him shudder. This was no toy.
His legs gave out, and he slid to the floor, trembling. "I was wrong! Please spare me!" Mr. Lee crawled and grabbed Jacob's legs as he begged.
Jacob kicked him away in disgust. "Don't beg me. You should ask my boss if he'll let you off."
Mr. Lee quickly turned to Zac, slapping himself twice across the face. "I don't know how I offended you, sir. Please, let me go!"
Zac sat calmly at the foot of the bed, his expression unreadable. After a moment, he asked, "Have you ever seen a duck?"
"Huh?" Mr. Lee was caught off guard and stammered, "I-I've seen one…"
"Have you ever seen an ugly duck trying to marry a beautiful swan?" Zac continued.
Mr. Lee was completely confused. He shook his head timidly. "No, I haven't."
"Well, I have." Zac leaned closer and patted Mr. Lee's face. "And you, you're that duck."
Mr. Lee was speechless, his face as pale as a sheet.
Zac spoke with a terrifying aura, "I came here today, to see who had the guts to mess with my woman."
Mr. Lee's voice trembled as he stammered, "I'm just a worthless duck! I' m a f*****g assh*le. I'll never go near Taylor again. Please, forgive me!"
Zac looked at him with disdain. "Do you know why your business never really takes off?"
Mr. Lee looked confused, but fearing for his life, he quickly replied, "Because I'm useless? I'm stupid?"
"That's part of it," Zac nodded, leaning in closer to whisper, "But the bigger reason is, you spend too much time chasing women."
Zac stood up and said, "Jacob, help him out."
"Help me?" Mr. Lee's face twisted in fear, but before he could finish speaking, Jacob kicked at his p***s hard.
A faint popping sound filled the room.
Mr. Lee let out a muffled groan, as if the pain was stuck in his throat. His body collapsed to the floor like a ragdoll, his limbs twisted in an unnatural position.
"General, it's done. He won't be causing any more trouble," Jacob said calmly.
Zac snorted, shot a cold glance at Mr. Lee, and motioned for Jacob to follow him out.
Just as they stepped outside the building, Rabbit drove up. Jacob quickly opened the back door for Zac. Taylor, who was already in the car, scooted over to make room for Zac.
"Take Ms. Harper home," Zac ordered Rabbit.
The car sped off into the night. Jacob, seated in the passenger seat, wisely pressed the button to raise the privacy screen between the front and back seats.
Zac sighed, breaking the silence. "Taylor, thank you for handling my parents' funeral. I'll do everything I can to repay you."
Taylor felt a bit overwhelmed, her fingers nervously twisting together. She wasn't sure how to respond.
Zac continued. "I'll marry you and take responsibility for you for the rest of my life." His tone was firm, leaving no room for argument.
Taylor's breath hitched slightly, surprise and uncertainty flickering across her face. After a pause, she finally said, "Let's talk about the engagement later."
Zac turned to look at her, his gaze unwavering. "In my heart, you're already my wife. But if you have feelings for someone else, then we'll discuss it."
Taylor stole a glance at Zac's sharp, handsome features, feeling flattered. She'd never heard such a straightforward confession before. She softly replied, "It's not that. It's just... with everything going on in my family, I don't want to drag you into it."
Zac gently took her hand, his gaze soft yet resolute. "What if I want to be involved?"
The warmth of Zac's hand made Taylor's heart race. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself before speaking. "You don't understand. My uncles have been suppressing me in the company. Now that I've ruined the deal with Mr. Lee, they're definitely going to punish me."
Taylor hesitated for a moment, her voice trembling slightly. "And… I have a sister who's gravely ill. I don't wanna burden anyone."
Zac spoke earnestly, "Please believe me. I'll protect you and your family with my life if I have to."
"Why are you doing this?" Taylor asked, clearly confused.
"Because you're worth it." Zac's lips curled into a soft smile, and his gaze softened instantly.
Taylor felt a wave of emotion in her heart, but she was unsure whether Zac’s words were genuine. Just as silence filled the car again, it came to a stop. The door on Taylor’s side opened, and Jacob, standing respectfully outside, said, "Ms. Harper, we've arrived. Please."
As Taylor walked away, Zac quietly spoke to Rabbit in the front seat, "Find a new project for Taylor to collaborate on, and do it as soon as possible."
Rabbit, seemingly prepared, responded, "I’ve got someone in mind—Max Drake, the chairman of MetroDynamics Inc. He works under Levi Stevens. Levi used to be a lieutenant general in the Azure Legion before he retired due to an injury. Now, he's the chairman of Stevens Group."
Zac nodded in approval, "Then get it done quickly."
With that, Zac opened the door and followed Taylor upstairs.
In front of her home, Taylor took a deep breath and gently knocked on the door.
The door opened quickly. Her mother stared at her, momentarily stunned, before her brows furrowed deeply.
"How dare you show your face here?" Her father besides shouted angrily, his face dark with rage.
