In the chairman's office of the Harper Group, Davis Harper, chairman of Harper Group and Taylor's grandfather, looked grim. Taylor stood with her head bowed and hands at her sides, and dared not to speak.
"Taylor, why did you mess up Mr. Lee's contract?" Davis questioned sternly from his chair.
Harper Group built its reputation on the clothing business, making millions in profits each year, which was quite impressive in Steelhaven. Logically, it wouldn't make sense to send the chairman's granddaughter to sleep with Mr. Lee just for an order.
Looking shocked, Taylor replied, "Grandpa, Mr. Lee is a pervert! He actually wanted me to sleep with him…"
She couldn't finish her sentence, tears of frustration welling up in her eyes.
Davis said indifferently, "Business is business. Don't you understand how important this deal with Mr. Lee is to the company?"
Taylor's tears finally overflowed. She felt humiliated and confused. 'How could my own grandfather not be angry? Why does he care more about the contract than what I went through?'
"Alright, alright. Being a girl in business is just troublesome," Davis said, glancing at Taylor, who was wiping her tears. He waved his hand impatiently and asked, "Ted, do you have any solutions?"
"Grandpa, that useless fiancé of Taylor is the one who beat Mr. Lee up, and I can't do anything about it," Ted said, looking smugly at Taylor.
Hearing this, Davis slammed the table and shouted angrily, "You i***t! You can't even handle this small matter, and you let your fiancé resort to violence. You're a disgrace to our Harper family!"
"Dad, if the company doesn't fire Taylor, Ted won't be able to handle Mr. Lee either," Frank chimed in, adding fuel to the fire. "Besides, her fiancé is a trouble. She'll drag down Harper Group sooner or later."
Davis nodded and then turned to Taylor, pointing to the door. "Get out of Harper Group now and all your positions are removed in the company."
Taylor forced a sad smile and didn't say much as she turned to leave. 'I have my dignity; I'll find a new job myself.'
As Taylor opened the office door, she bumped into Zac, who was coming in.
"Let's go. I got fired," Taylor said, feeling mixed emotions. "I need to find a new job quickly; my sister's medical bills can't be delayed."
Zac replied calmly, "I just ran into someone I know named Max. He said he needs to order uniforms for his workers and is willing to sign a three-year contract. Do you think this order could replace Mr. Lee's?"
Taylor looked at Zac in surprise and asked, "Max? Is he the chairman of MetroDynamics Inc.?"
Zac nodded seriously. "That's him."
"Are you serious?" Taylor asked uncertainly. After all, MetroDynamics Inc. is several times larger than Mr. Lee's company. Harper Group had tried to negotiate with them several times before but was turned away each time.
"Absolutely, I wouldn't lie to you," Zac assured her.
"Hey, what are you two whispering about? Is MetroDynamics Inc. really willing to sign a contract? Zac, you're not joking, are you?" Ted said mockingly. "I've tried several times to work with MetroDynamics Inc., and they always rejected us. Why would they suddenly want to cooperate?"
Just then, the secretary rushed over to Davis and said, "Mr. Harper, Mr. Drake is here!"
"Which Mr. Drake?" Davis asked eagerly.
"Mr. Max Drake!" the secretary confirmed.
"What?" Both Davis and Frank stood up in surprise. They were puzzled. 'Could what Zac said really be true?'
MetroDynamics Inc. was far bigger than Harper Group, and Max had significant influence in both the underworld and business circles. Even someone like Davis had to show him respect.
Frank frowned and asked, "Zac, do you have a good relationship with Max?"
Zac replied, "Max used to be a partner at Willis Group. Out of respect for old ties, he's willing to help me this once."
Frank and Ted exchanged glances, muttering, "Taylor's fiancé is just a big talker. Let's wait and see how he embarrasses himself."
While everyone was in shock, Max had already arrived.
Davis quickly stepped forward, greeted with respect, "Hello, Mr. Drake. I'm so sorry for not coming down to greet you in person!"
He hurriedly led Max into the office, with Frank and Ted following closely behind, eager to please him.
A moment later, Ted grinned and said, "Mr. Drake, can I go get the contract for you to sign?"
"Why would I sign a contract with you?" Max asked, his gaze cold as he looked at Ted.
"Uh…" Ted felt awkward and asked, "Aren't you here to sign a contract?"
"Yeah. But who are you?" Max replied.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Drake. I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Ted Harper, the grandson of Chairman Davis!" Ted bowed and explained.
Max replied bluntly, "I don't care whose grandson you are. In Harper Group, I only recognize Taylor. She's Mr. Willis's fiancée! I'll only sign with her."
Frank, trying to curry favor, said, "Mr. Drake, Taylor is just a department manager, and I'm the general manager. Signing with me shows we take this cooperation seriously."
"Haha." Max gave a cold laugh and said, "You seem to misunderstand me. I'm here today purely out of respect for Mr. Willis."
Max's words deeply hurt Frank's pride. He felt furious but didn't dare to speak up.
Frank immediately forced a smile and called out to Taylor, "Taylor, dear, come over here."
Zac held Taylor's arm and said to Frank, "You really have a short memory. Didn't you just fire Taylor?"
"You got fired?" Max immediately stood up and turned to Taylor, saying, "Ms. Harper, you should start your own clothing factory. I can introduce you to some major clients. I can't guarantee anything else, but I assure you of an annual profit of a few million."
Davis stood up too, trying to ease the tension. "Who said she got fired? Taylor is my granddaughter. How could I bear to let my own granddaughter struggle to find a job?"
Hearing this, Taylor felt a pang in her heart. 'So he understands everything. Does he really treat me like his granddaughter? It's so ironic.'
"Since it wasn't Mr. Harper who fired her, then it must have been the other two," Zac said, looking at Frank and Ted.
Max nodded in agreement. "Ms. Harper, since Harper Group doesn't value you, listen to me and go solo!"
Davis exchanged glances with Frank. Frank had no choice but to say, "Taylor, dear, what I said before was just in anger. I wanted to push you to improve. My words were inappropriate, and I apologize."
Ted apologized as well, saying, "Taylor, I'm sorry."
Davis chuckled. "Your uncle and cousin have already admitted their mistakes. Taylor, we're family—there's no need to hold grudges. You're still the manager at Harper Group, so let's get you talking to Mr. Drake about the contract."
Taylor glanced at Zac, who nodded back at her.
The contract signing went very smoothly. Over the three years, by producing 30,000 sets of work clothes, Harper Group could make at least six million in profit.
Davis was grinning from ear to ear, while Frank and his son cursed quietly among themselves.
Ted muttered angrily, "That Zac is just a stupid soldier. Why on earth would Max want to help him?"
Frank's expression turned cold as he darkly replied, "I think Max is just after Taylor's looks. Next time, they won't have such good luck. We'll take care of both Zac and Taylor then."
"Zac isn't a big deal, but if Taylor secures this deal, getting rid of her in the company later will be tough," Ted said anxiously.
"I have other plans. Don't worry," Frank said with a sly grin.
