Chapter 12: Mysterious Letter_
After much consolation and reassurance from the police, the guardians of the kidnapped left the station. Kevin and Nora's drive home was a blur of anxiety and uncertainty. The news of the kidnapping had shaken them to their core, and the broadcast of the game scenes from the house had left them feeling helpless.
As they walked into their silent home, Kevin's eyes scanned the living room, and his heart sank. A red letter lay on the table, boldly addressed to them with the words "GUESS ME" scrawled across the front. Nora's eyes widened as she saw the letter, and she looked at Kevin with a mix of fear and curiosity.
Kevin carefully opened the envelope, his hands shaking slightly, and pulled out the letter. The message inside was cryptic:
"In pain am I dead but grace will I dwell
Deem me fit like judgement for your punishment are near
GuesS Me"
Nora's voice trembled as she read the words aloud. "What does it mean? Is this from the kidnapper?"
Kevin's mind was racing. He had no idea what the message meant, but he knew they had to take it seriously. The kidnapper had clearly been watching them, waiting for them to receive the message.
As they stood there, frozen in uncertainty, Kevin's phone rang, shattering the silence. He hesitated before answering, wondering if it was the kidnapper again.
"Hello?" he said, trying to keep his voice steady.
The voice on the other end was distorted, sending a chill down Kevin's spine. "You've received the message, Kevin. Now it's your turn to play. Solve the riddle, and you might see your daughter again."
The call ended abruptly, leaving Kevin and Nora staring at each other in horror. The riddle seemed to be playing on their minds, and Kevin already knew that it was connected to the kidnapping.
He looked at Nora, and they both knew what they had to do next. "We need to solve the riddle," Kevin said, his voice firm.
Nora nodded, determination etched on her face. "We'll do it, Kevin. We'll get Ann back."
Just then, the realization suddenly dawned on Kevin, and he couldn’t help but say, “If the kidnappers could enter our house without breaking the door, then this is enough to prove how strong they are. Let’s first call the police and show them this new clue. We can’t put our daughter’s life at risk by bending to the rules of some psycho.”
Nora seemed to understand what Kevin was saying, because for all they knew, the kidnapper might be waiting for them to make a mistake. They’re in the light and can’t act rashly, this broke the idea of solving the riddle. Although they were told to solve the riddle the kidnapper didn’t say what would happen if they gave a wrong answer..
Saying that, Kevin took his phone and called the police.
Officer James answered on the first ring. "Kevin, what's going on?"
Kevin took a deep breath. "We got a letter, Officer. From the kidnapper. They left a riddle."
There was a pause on the other end. "We'll send someone over right away. Don't touch anything else."
Kevin nodded, even though he knew the officer couldn't see him. "Okay. We'll wait."
The wait for the police felt like thousands of years going by.Kevin and Nora almost had their heart on their throat as the wait was becoming more and more unbearable.
Nora wished she had a pair of wings so she could fly directly to the station and give them the clue. But what if this new found clue is the key to opening up untold secrets ??
