Kevin and Nora's eyes widened as they scrolled through the missed calls on their phone. They had just woken up to a buzzing sound only to find what seems to be more than a hundred missed calls on their phones. All from different relatives but the most urgent and noticeable one was the police station's message that read: "URGENT: Please contact us regarding Ann Wilson. Kidnapping report filed." Nora's voice trembled. "Oh no, what in the world happened again? By any chance, did something happen to my baby? How could I have slept when my I know daughter is missing? What kind of a mother am I?" Nora started sobbing again, her body shaking with fear.
Kevin: "Calm down, Nora. Remember yesterday... the police said the kidnappers must have a motive for doing this; they won’t do anything to our daughter without contacting us first, so wipe your tears." Kevin comforted Nora while stroking her back, trying to reassure her with a calm tone. "We have to stay strong for Ann, okay?" Kevin was already dialing the police station's number, his fingers moving quickly over the keys. "I'll call them back."
The phone rang a few times before an officer answered. The background was quite noisy. Then a voice answered "Police Station. Officer James speaking."
Kevin: "This is Ann Wilson's father, Kevin Wilson. I got a bunch of missed calls from the station. It’s about Ann’s case, right? Is everything all right? Did the kidnappers reach out? Did something happen to my daughter? Have you found her? Please tell me you have good news."
Officer James: "Sir, please calm down. Yes, it’s about your daughter’s case. We need you to come down to the station As soon as possible. We have some updates on the case."
Nora's face was pale, her eyes red from crying. "What is it? What's going on?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kevin's voice was firm. "We'll be right there. Can you tell me anything about the updates?"
Officer James: "Sir, it's better we discuss this in person. Please come down to the station as fast as you can”.
Kevin nodded, even though he knew the officer couldn't see him. "Okay, we're on our way."
Kevin and Nora quickly got dressed, anxiety written all over their faces. They rushed out the door, leaving their obviously hurried and half-eaten breakfast on the table. As they drove to the police station, the tension in the car was palpable. Nora's eyes were fixed on the road, her hands clenched into fists. Kevin's grip on the steering wheel was tight, his mind couldn’t help but race with worst-case scenarios.
The supposed 30minutes drive was shortened to 15minutes and they finally arrived at the police station, and Kevin parked the car hastily. They got out and rushed into the station, where Officer James was waiting for them.
"Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, thank you for coming," Officer James said, his expression serious.
Kevin's eyes narrowed. "What's going on? What happened to Ann?"
Officer James: "Let's talk in the interrogation room. We have some news."
Nora's voice was barely audible. "What news? Please, just tell us."
Officer James nodded sympatically but still led them to the interrogation room saying:"Okay, let's go."
They followed Officer James to the interrogation room, their hearts pounding in their chests. The room was cold and sterile, with a large mirror on one wall. Officer James gestured for them to sit down.
"Sit down, please," he said, his voice calm.
Kevin and Nora sat down, their obviously tended eyes fixed on Officer James.
Do they get to hear the news?
