Tears

Clay POV I was accustomed to the grueling torture, or rather, the rigorous training, that was required to mold me into a skilled hunter. The tests and trials we endured were far from easy; they pushed us to our limits, forcing us to navigate through excruciating situations that some might even consider torture. This particular challenge, however, tested me in a way I had not anticipated. My body throbbed with pain, every muscle screaming in protest. The moment Emma uttered those words, I was forbidden to see. It was a shock to realize that the mark on my body possessed the power to strip away my sight. I was immobilized, unable to move an inch. She wasn't lying when she spoke of invisible shackles; they held me in this uncomfortable position, one that I had to endure for a grueling 24 hours. I knew she only resorted to this extreme measure because she had no other choice. Although I may now be her slave, it was clear that she despised having this level of control over me. Silence enveloped me. The weight of my forced kneeling position served as a public display, a blatant exhibition of my complete lack of freedom. As time wore on, a chill settled in the air, a reminder that the night was growing late. Finally, a voice pierced through the stillness, belonging to Ryan. "I wonder how long a human can endure slavery under a lycan," he greeted with a chilling tone. "It's fascinating how a single command can render you immobile, unable to speak or see," he chuckled darkly. "And once you survive this, we will extract every secret you're hiding, even the ones you keep from her. I can see the way she looks at you now, hunter, but will she still look at you the same way when you're forced to speak?" I despised the feeling of powerlessness, unable to defend myself. Ryan, only intensified my hatred. Every fiber of my being screamed that he was dangerous. The sound of his voice made my blood run cold. I loathed how he was in Emma's life, fearing he would cause her harm. “I have heard of the princess for most of my life, as have many others. The royal lycan twins, born from the last royal Lycan and the royal white wolf, are legendary creatures. They are destined to be stronger, with the female twin being even more powerful. The dream of many packs is to have one of the twins as their mate. A wish to create a stronger relationships with the lycan kingdom. However, all of these offers have been turned down. Some think the king and queen are mad for not considering these packs as potential mates for their daughter. A mate bond for someone like Emma is not just about fate, but also about her duty and the strength of the kingdom. Surprisingly, her parents have managed to maintain a certain level of peace for a long time. But there are packs that still do not follow them, and others who teeter on the edge. One can only wonder what would happen if they were to learn that the princess has found her mate - a hunter who harms her kind. Even if you weren't a hunter, you are human, weak compared to us. Though you have wolf bloodline in you, you do not possess the power of a lycan. You are pure human, not fit to be the mate of a lycan princess. You will never be able to protect your mate. Without your weapons, you are powerless and have no true strength or power.” Ryan explained. “If you actually care for her, I suggest you do her a favor and break the bond you share. It's simple, hunter. Just speak your full name out loud and say that you reject Emma, the lycan princess, as your fated mate. If you do that, I will even help you get freedom," he said with a sinister tone. My heart hammered against my chest, the fear and anger pulsating through me. I wanted more than anything to beat the living daylights out of him, but any movement resulted in searing pain, causing him to laugh. "Think about it, hunter," he taunted, leaving me in silence once again. Time seemed to stretch on forever, and I held on, trying to endure. Finally, exhaustion overcame me, and I started to drift off. But suddenly, a sharp pain jolted through my body, jolting me awake. My heart pounded within me as the torture took its toll. Every inch of my body burned with exhaustion, and the darkness started to play tricks on my mind. "Hold on, Clay. Please hold on for me," a voice echoed in my head. It sounded like Emma's voice, a desperate plea to keep fighting. I couldn't take much more of this, the suffocating air and the deafening silence making me feel like I was on the brink of insanity. But just as I believed I would go completely mad, a glimmer of control returned to my body. A unfamiliar voice pierced through the silence. "His time is up," it said. And then, another voice joined in, breaking the momentary silence. "Looks like the princess is here," it said. The words hung in the air, almost tangible. A few more moments of stillness passed, until Emma's voice broke through the tension. "Guards, help him up and bring him to the van," she commanded. Her voice was filled with authority. "He still needs to be questioned," I heard Ryan's voice. "And he will be. I intend to question him and I'll report any valuable information back to you," she said. "It should be done on pack lands," he pushed. "He belongs to me now. Correct, that was the punishment. So I'll handle it. But don't worry, I don't intend to keep information," she said as the van took off. Once again, I was led upstairs when we arrived. I was starting to get used to this. I was forced into a chair, followed by the typical click of the door. After only a few seconds, a warm touch on my face. "I command the darkness to be lifted, but you must remain seated," Emma's voice reached me. Slowly, the room came into view again. It was then I noticed she was not alone. Ryan stood in the corner of the room. Yet, she turned to him. "As you can see, I have things from here," she said to him. "We will continue with the plan in a few hours. Jennifer will aid us and bring Clay to a location he can easily access the campus on foot. I will make sure he has his orders so he can't disobey," she said. "Very well, I'll continue to have my warriors keep an eye on you for your protection," Ryan said as he opened the door and left. She waited a moment and then came to me. Her hand trembled as she removed the collar from my neck, followed by the cuffs. She dropped them to the floor. She inspected my wrists, a look of pain in her eyes. Then, she moved her hand to my knees. They were sore from bending so long, but I could manage. "I really wish you could heal like me," she whispered, her voice barely audible. Stepping back, she looked at me intently. "As I mentioned to Ryan, Jennifer will release you from this room in a few hours. Once you're away from her, act as if you escaped when speaking to the hunters. Before you leave, Jennifer will give you a potion to hide the mark on your body. Remember, even though it's hidden, it still works. You can then return to your life on campus and there's no need to act any differently than before. We will continue working on the group project, which will give us an excuse to see each other at times. Additionally, you should continue doing whatever Liz asked you to do," she explained. Her words lingered in the air, swirling around me like a hazy mist. I could feel the weight of her words, heavy and burdensome, settling on my shoulders. I could sense her hesitation as she struggled to utter the last part. Her eyes glistened with unshed tears, revealing the pain she was trying to conceal. "You can speak freely again," she finally said, her voice tinged with a mixture of relief and vulnerability. The thought of causing her pain made my heart ache, and I couldn't bear the idea of her suffering for my sake. “Let me know if anything I do hurts you, I’ll make sure not to kiss or sleep with her, and I’ll push her away if she tries.” I said. “Don’t worry about it,” she said, her voice tight with a forced confidence, “I can handle the pain if it occurs again.” "No," I snapped. "I don't want to cause you pain, Emma. That's not who I am." “Being around Liz already makes me feel sick, the sight of her smug face and the sound of her voice. But I can endure it, for the sake of getting answers. If she ends up causing you pain, I'll be honest, I may not be able to keep up the act. Even if you order me not to come to you, that is an order I would fight through. I won't allow you to be hurt because of me anymore.” I said. "Intimate contact," she explained, her eyes piercing into mine. "You can hug her, but touching her intimately, kissing her, having s*x with her... it will all hurt me. Since we are bound together by an invisible bond, any connection you have with another female will be seen as betrayal" Ryan's words played in my head again. "Yet if I reject..." I started to speak, but her gaze silenced me. "Is that what you want?" she asked softly. "Do you wish to reject this bond, Clay?" "He offered me freedom, a way out of this mark," I said, shaking my head. "Claimed that being your mate would ultimately look bad on you, even if I wasn't a hunter, since I'm human." She growled, a low rumble that I was not accustomed to. The sound resonated in the room, adding to the tension. "He has no right," she muttered, more to herself. "I knew there was something fishy about him. Why would he offer you such a way to break a bond? What does he know?" "Even if I'm offered freedom from this right now, I would refuse if it meant rejecting you," I said firmly, meeting her intense gaze. Her eyes softened, and she whispered a quiet "thanks." I knew there was more she wanted to say, but I didn't have the right to push for it now. I needed to focus on earning her trust. "I will see you on campus, Clay," she said, her voice tinged with a mix of emotions. "Once I leave this room, you can stand again." "Why must it be only when you leave?" I asked. "Because this isn't easy for me," she admitted, her voice filled with vulnerability. "I know this isn't easy for you either. Our bond drives us to be with each other, to touch and have each other. It makes it hard for me to watch you suffer, to be the one causing you pain. And it's making it really hard for me to ask you to go back and be with Liz." The weight of her words settled in, the complexity of our situation becoming even more apparent. “I wish I could just have you since we are meant to be, the moon goddess. She chose you for me, me for you. You are my perfect match, the other half of my soul. Yet, I now have to face that what I want, whom I'm meant to be with, is also someone many of my kind want dead. And justice, regardless if you are not completely at fault in their eyes, you are seen as a threat, and I'm seen as their princess.” She explained. “If I simply accept you, Clay, I'll be seen as a traitor. And in my position, that not only harms me but many. It puts the kingdom at risk. We could lose potential allies and support. It puts all my family has worked for at risk if I choose to be with the one my destiny.” She said, walking closer to me. She placed her hand on my cheek. "I want you, Clay. I really do. For I believe you are good, and I believe in the moon goddess making us mates. It's just going to be a really hard and I'm sure a long road ahead before I can really have you or you can have me," she said. "Let me hold you then, just for a moment, Emma. Like you said, in the brief moments we have alone, let's try to be with each other. I am well aware of the struggle we will face, maybe not all of yours, but I want to learn so I can prove that I can be with you, so I can earn your forgiveness and those who I have harmed. I thought I was going crazy when I first saw you, over these intense feelings. But now that I understand what they are, I can't let go of them. I need you just as badly, if not more than you need me," I said to her. "You're free to move," she whispered as I immediately stood and took her in my embrace. I felt her body trembling as she broke down, finally letting me in on some of her emotions. “The tears you cry right now are my fault, but mark my word, I am going to make things right. For I never want to see you in pain like this again, not by me or anyone else. I've failed a lot in my life, but I'm not going to fail you, nor will I ever give up on being with you. you’re the only one I want, and I will find a way to protect you, to protect us," I said to her as she turned, pressing her head against my body as I felt her tears. "I believe you," she whispered. And those words, they were enough for me to keep moving on, to keep trying to get my family justice, to make up for my wrongs, and to fight to keep Emma.
