“To the second floor we go” Celestine said and with elegance she almost flew up the stairs.
“The first door here is Mothers office. On open nights her door is always open. She handles the money business and makes sure what the deal is. We all have a red button in our room in case something happens, but they are rarely used. The men here have some serious respect for Mother!”
The door was closed now. No sounds coming from there.
“Does she live in there?”
“No she doesn’t. She have a smaller house on the other side of the garden, but she spends a lot of time here.”
We walked down the hall, on the doors was a number, and beneath that stood the names of the girls. Opal. Citrine. Onyx.
“Does Mother have a thing for crystals?” I asked.
Celestine laughed. “Oh does she? We are all named after different kind of crystals. She chooses the one she finds fitting to us.”
We came to door number 5 with the sign “Celestine” on it.
“This is my room. All the rooms are equal in size, but we chooses how it is decorated.”
She opened the door to a room with light blue walls and ceiling. White paint had been padded on near the floor so it looked like skies. All the furniture was white and on the floor was the most fluffy white carpet I had ever seen.
“This looks like a sky” I said I awe.
“Yeah that was the plan. I got inspired from my name and choose to paint it like the stone” Celestine said with a big smile on her face.
“So all the rooms looks like this. I have my clothes in the closet and my underwear in the drawer. I don’t work with toys or that kind of stuff, but some uses space in the drawers for that too. Through that door I have my own little bathroom. It’s not very big, but we need to shower after each customer so it’s nice not to have to share it with everybody else.”
That made sense. I already started to think about how I would decorate my room, when that time came.
“And that’s about it. You’ll know your way around here in no time. Don’t you want a nap and a bath before dinner?”
“Oh I would love to. I almost can’t remember when I last had a real shower and not just washed myself in a sink.”
“I’ll find you some towels and some clean clothes. We must have something that’ll fit you nicely.”
Celestine walked out of the room and two minutes later she came with 2 white, fluffy towels, a green dress and a set of black underwear.
“We have a storage here at the end of the hall. Almost everyone who leaves here leave som clothes behind - it comes in handy in cases like this. Here. Go down in the basement, take a long nice bath and then a nap in the Yellow Room. I will come and wake you up when it’s dinnertime.”
My eyes filled with tears from gratitude. I thanked Celestine and made my way towards the basement.
