Chapter three: Dravoks

Chapter Three I only knew of one word he loved, and that was my sobriquet, PEARL. That was his password, of course. Yes. I quickly put on his shorts and shirt before the maids came in, after drying my hair with his masculine hair dryer. A knock sounded on the door. "Ma'am, dinner is ready," a voice said from behind the door. "I'll be right down," I replied. I packed my hair in a French plait and walked to the dining room. As always, there were many varieties of food on the table, just like in my parents' house. One of the maids pulled out a chair, and I took the seat. There was too much food, beverages and fruit to pick from. I took a slice of toasted bread, taking one bite after the other until I was full. All the freaks just stood there, watching me take one bite after the other. I had never wanted any of those freaks to take me out shopping in the first place, so I had made a plan to go alone, but it was already too late for that. I stood up from the chair. "Ma'am, you've not taken some water," she said. I eyed her furiously. "And how is that your business?" I replied, and walked away. I was sure of one thing: Celeste had that snitch poking into my business. I knew well that he had ordered them to do it, with so much impudence. At the Store On my way to the hallway, I was taken aback by a voice. "Ma'am, it's time for your outing," said Kael, one of Celeste's closest guards. I had no choice but to oblige, unless I was ready to keep putting on Celeste's shirt and shorts. The moment we got into the car, I asked him, "Where did Celeste travel to? Because it's unusual for Celeste to travel without Kael by his side." "Well, ma'am, I've no idea," he replied professionally. Of course, he definitely knew where Celeste had traveled, but he was just doing his job, keeping it a secret. I wasn't surprised when Kael took me to the fanciest mall in the city. A sales attendant gestured for me to follow her. "Of course, miss. May I ask what kind of fabric you find splendid?" "Don't worry, I'll find something that suits me as soon as possible," I said dryly. The sales lady led me to a rack. There were so many dresses to pick from, because this was my first time shopping for my own clothes. Finally, I picked up a plain black dress. "How much is this?" "Very good choice and taste, miss," she said with a bright smile. "This costs $1,200." "Good, you can excuse me now," I said, making sure it landed soft and calm. She gave a curt smile and left. The mall was large enough to fit thousands of dresses and buyers. My eyes caught a red dress. I aimed for it, but a huge, masculine figure appeared behind me. "Hey," a voice echoed behind me. I turned to see who it was. It was the asshole from that night. How did he get here? "Are you stalking me?" I asked, my voice carrying effortlessly. He laughed mockingly. "I don't see or have a reason to be stalking you, miss," he replied sharply. "But I don't know, or didn't realize, that men shop for female wear," I shot back at him. "Sort of," he said with a shrug. I shouldn't have been freaking out, but there I was. "A r****t, got it? Yes? Of course, yes," I replied sarcastically. His eyes darkened at the word r****t. His jaw tightened as he paused for a second. I could see the fierceness in his red eyes, sharp and unforgiving. He ripped the red dress off my hand. He was about to say something when a young man approached us. He looked to be in his thirties, firm and neatly dressed in a suit, more like an enforcer. "Mr. Dravok, your dad awaits you, sir," he said steadily. He turned once more to me. "I'll take the dress along with me. There are way better dresses on the other side than this view," he said, and left with his messenger, I guessed. Something sounded familiar about that name, Dravok. I had heard it somewhere but couldn't recollect where or when. Memories of that night filled my head as I tried hard to piece together both situations: who he was, and how we had ended up in the same room. The attendant assigned to me interrupted my thoughts. I took in a huge breath as I realized I had only picked one dress all that time. Dravok, Dravok. The name kept ringing in my ears. After countless attempts at pulling myself together, I gathered the courage to ask the attendant. "Please, the man who just walked away, how is he related to the Dravok family?" I asked slowly, desperate. "Oh, you mean Mr. Adrian?" she asked with a knowing smile. I guessed that was his middle name anyway. "Yes," I hushed out. "He is the Dravoks' heir," she replied with a questioning face. "Is anything wrong, or is there any trouble?" "Not at all, I just wanted to make a confirmation," I lied. "Better," she said, pointing to another route. "Here." I followed her. I wanted more answers. The Dravoks' heir, and his shitty ass didn't behave like one. The more I thought about it, the more questions came up with no answers. After all the picking and picking of clothes, I headed to the parking spot, where Kael was watching the store closely, like a thief planning strategies. The ride was silent until I decided to break the fragile silence. "Who are the Dravoks, Kael?" I asked suddenly, which made him stagger at the wheel. He stared at me through the rear-view mirror as if I had said something not horrible, but rather dangerous. At first, I thought he was going to ignore the question, but this time it was not related to his profession. He began to drive steadily again. "The Dravoks' families are one of the Mafias in the city right now. They are said to be dangerous. They rule like a lion without a crown," he said, his words dripping out one after the other. It sounded more terrifying than what the sales girl had explained. "They have killed many, fought many wars, won many wars, and have never lost any war," he continued. He noticed how terrified I looked from the words he had said, and he paused. "Miss, are you alright?" he asked. "Uhm, I'm good. Just one more question. Do they have an heir?" I asked, trying to hide the nervousness on my face. "Of course they do." "And have you met him before?" I asked. "No." "That's all for now, thanks," I replied shortly, after a short pause. Kael went back to being his normal, official self, always fierce-looking but with a mixture of calmness. He was, over time, giving me solid answers to my questions.
