If anyone told Alessandro he was going to see her again let alone her applying to be his secretary, he’d have slapped them across the face. Yet, he was the one gobsmacked. He stared at the file in front of him, Amelia Hills. She lied to him in the club. He wasn't better off, he hid his identity; he divulged information but she lied totally. He felt annoyed.
He had been thinking about her non-stop since Friday night yet she lied about her identity. She couldn't be trusted. If she could lie about her name, what else was she capable of lying about?
“Hello, Amelia Hills. Let’s go straight to the point, why should I give you this job?” He said, with a cold tone and an expressionless face. He was all business-like with her.
Amelia knew she was f****d. She wanted the ground to open up and swallow her badly. He remembered her but refused to acknowledge her for obvious reasons. She swallowed harshly and straightened herself.
“Uh- I-I really need this job. I will not bore you with the story of where I studied or where I have worked, I know you have read my file. I am qualified for it and it would mean the world to me if I get this job, Sir.” She said, trying her best to compose herself.
Alessandro’s face looked impassive. He knew she was right about him reading her file, she was the most qualified. She was very intelligent. He had no reason not to hire her. A part of him knew even if she was the least qualified, he was still going to employ her and he hated it. His feelings were conflicted; she lied to him and he detested lies.
Their eyes met, he saw someone who had gone through a lot and was desperate for things to work out for her and he didn't know when the words came out of his mouth. “You are hired.”
Amelia let out a sigh of relief. “Thank you, Sir. Do I start immediately?” At the back of her mind, she wondered if he really didn't remember her or he just didn't want to acknowledge her but she decided to act like she didn't know him either if that was how it was gonna be. She only needed the job anyway.
Alessandro told her his schedule for the day plus his rules and told her she could start immediately, keeping his eyes on the system. After noting every piece of information down, he told her she could go to her desk. Her scent was invading his senses. He knew he was gonna have to keep total distance from her and he mustn’t break out of character. At least, not yet.
Amelia left the office, feeling conflicted as well. A part of her felt like she should have brought it up and the other part didn't want to endanger her losing her job because he was popular for taking no bullshit. She bumped into something hard and the papers fell. She instinctively bent down to pick them but the man beat her to it, picking them up already.
“I-I’m s-sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going. Please, forgive me.” Amelia said in a rush. She turned to look at him, he was at least 6’2, attractive with striking emerald eyes and a dazzling smile that reached his eyes. He handed her the papers, smiled softly, and told her it was okay.
“I'm Adrian. It's nice to meet you.” He said with a cheeky smile. His smile was contagious.
“I'm Amelia. Nice meeting you too.”
“Oh, are you the new secretary? You look pretty, Amelia. I like your name.” Adrian said, with a smirk.
“Thank you. Do you have an appointment, please?”
“No, I'm here to see Alessandro, I am his younger brother. Is he in?” Adrian said, shining his pearly whites, trying to charm her.
After what just happened in there, Amelia surely didn't want to annoy Alessandro. She picked up the connecting landline and dialed his office. He picked at the first ring.
“What?” He said, curtly.
“Your brother is here to see you, Sir. Should I let him in?”
“Let him in, hold all the calls for now too. We are not to be disturbed.”
“Okay, Sir.”
She dropped the call and turned to Adrian, who c****d his eyebrow at her, looking clearly amused.
“Did he tell you to throw me out?”
She chuckled. “No, you can go in, have a pleasant day, Sir.”
Adrian took her hand, placed a delicate kiss on the back of it, and winked at her. “Thank you for your help, Miss Amelia.”
Then, he walked away towards Alessandro’s office, leaving a confused Amelia.
She was still pretty shaken by what had transpired in Alessandro’s office. She could sense Adrian was trying to flirt with her but she was not trying to get into trouble. She got this job and she intended to keep it that way.

Adrian walked towards Alessandro’s door, feeling excited. She was different. Normally, he’d come over and the secretaries his brother had would offer to take his coat and try to flirt with him before he did but Amelia was very indifferent towards him. She was all business-like, he liked her guts.
He bet he could break her down in a month, no, two weeks enough. Well, he’d have to see. He didn't do very well with being told “NO” right from when he was a kid. He liked being the center of attention now because he didn't get much attention as a child, his brother always did. Alessandro was the “star child”. He felt the hint of bile rising in his throat, thinking about it.
He barged into his office, knowing it was going to annoy Alessandro but he didn’t care. That was his fun, irking Alessandro. Alessandro didn't need to look up to know who came in.
“What are you doing here?” Alessandro said, his eyes on the files in front of him.
“I can't just drop in to say hi to my favorite person in the world? You are not happy to see me, brother?” Adrian said, flopping on the couch carelessly.
“No, get your filthy shoes off my couch and tell me why you are here. I have things to take care of.” Alessandro said, now looking at him with a glare.
Adrian, happy he got a rise out of him at least, removed his legs from the couch and raised his hands in mock surrender. “Mother sends her regards.”
“She has my phone number, she can call. Now, if you just came here to banter on a Monday morning, I have things to do. Bye, Adrian.” Alessandro said, returning his attention to the files.
Adrian chuckled and stood up to leave. He had a shoot he had to be at anyway. He was late.
“I was just about to leave too anyway. I have “things” to do too. Bye, favorite person in the world.” He said, with a mock-laden voice.
He sauntered off towards the door and stopped before opening it, c*****g his head back towards Alessandro.
“Lest I forget, your new secretary is cute. I just might come around a lot.”
Alessandro’s head instinctively snapped up and his eyes grew dark. He knew what Adrian meant and normally, he wouldn't care. He has done it many times before and that wasn't his business. His secretaries were adults, they had the right to choose what they wanted. But why was he burning up right now?
“Stay away from my secretary, Adrian. I have a reputation to uphold in this company, you wouldn't ruin that for me.”
“You have never had a problem with me fancying your secretaries before, you rarely care about anything, do you like this one?” Adrian said, taunting him.
Alessandro’s eyes grew into slits and he ignored him, returning his attention to the files. He knew that I'd he said anything else, he’d just invigorate Adrian’s interest in Amelia.
“Well, I guess that's settled.” Adrian said, with a cocky smirk and walked out of the office.

Getting home, Amelia felt burnt out. Her first day was hectic and she could feel her boss’s piercing eyes on her almost everytime. It felt like he was watching her like a hawk. It also made her wonder if he really didn’t remember her or he just chose to ignore her.
Seeing him in the sunlight, he looked ethereal. The club lights did him no justice; everything about him was majestic. Throughout the day, she felt so aroused because now, putting a clear face on the mysterious man on Friday night, she couldn't help but imagine what could have happened if he hadn't abruptly disappeared.
Her phone’s ringtone snatched her out of her thoughts. Maya’s name, flashing on the screen. She picked up.
“Hiiii, Bestiee. How was your first day at work?” Maya shrilled into the phone.
“It was good but I am beat. Today was full of surprises. Guess who my boss is?”
“Girllllll, drop the tea. Who's your boss?”
“The man I danced with at the club on Friday. Apparently, he doesn't remember me though.”
“OMG! I swear, fate works in different ways. Why didn't you tell him then since you remembered him?” Maya questioned.
“Maya, I lied about my name. He probably doesn't even remember he danced with anyone at that club on Friday. It doesn't matter, all I want is enough money to settle the loans and my bills. I don't need a man anyway.”
“Oh, no, babes. You do need a MAN. When last did you get some D? You are literally a secondary virgin at this point.” Maya said, with a bark of laughter.
Amelia rolled her eyes. “I want to rest. Bye, Maya.”
“Bye, Bestieeeee. Kisses.” And the line went dead.
Amelia sighed and dragged herself to the shower to have a relaxing shower to clear her head.

Amelia grumbled under her breath, standing in front of Alessandro. She had sorted the same file almost five times and Alessandro wasn't still satisfied. It was the second week she started working for him and he treated her very coldly. Everything was so business-like with him, that he never almost spared her a glance.
The workload he gave her was on another dimension. At this point, she felt like he hated her and she didn't even know why.
“Amelia, I want it in alphabetical form. The files are labeled with alphabets for a reason. Go do that and while you are at it, get me an Espresso.” Alessandro said, with a straight face. She sighed, took the files, and walked out of the office to do as he said.
Alessandro watched her leave and he could feel her exhaustion. He almost felt sorry for her but he wanted her to suffer for lying to him. Having her so close to him had an effect on him everytime too. He always tamed the urge to grab her neck and kiss her till she couldn't breathe. When she was talking, his focus was always on her lips, he could care less what she had to say.
Amelia got back to her desk and saw a bouquet with a note. She was utterly confused and surprised because there was no one that she could even think of to send her flowers.
“ I hope your day is filled with joy,
Hoping this makes you smile, you
look amazing when you do, let nothing
take your smile away from you.”
She genuinely smiled and wondered who it was from. The card had no name. Maya? Because that was the only person she could honestly think about. She was so engrossed in reading the card that she didn't know when someone sneaked up behind her.
“Do you like them, Amelia? The flowers look radiant like you do.”
She turned to look behind her and who she saw made her utterly stunned.
