1115 Words
Geonbu and I were classmates in middle school, year 3. He wasn’t in my group of friends and I wasn’t in his. I got to actually know him when he caught a flu and the teacher told me to visit his home. We were neighbors living in the same apartment building and so the teacher thought it was good idea for me to visit him.. I was the class president then. He was almost a week absent that time. He caught a flu over the weekend so he didn’t go to school and Monday and by Wednesday the teachers were worried so I visited him that afternoon after class. I didn’t actually know we were neighbors since we don’t bump into each other. I go to school early and come home later than my classmates. The teacher wrote his address in a piece of paper and gave it to me. His exact unit address was written on it, and it was right above our floor. I decided to swing by hi home first before going home so I don’t have to go out again. I got there and rang their doorbell. There was no response. I pressed the doorbell for three times before I heard a thud sound inside. A second later, the door opened and it was Geonbu who opened it. “Hello?” I said awkwardly because we didn’t have any interactions before this. Except of course passing exam papers and collecting them. “President…” I tilted my head with the way he called me. ‘President?’ Did he not know my name? “Just call me Mina.” I said smiling. “What are you doing here?” “I came to give you a copy of the notes we had from Monday till today. And also some homeworks that you need to do.” I opened my bag to get the notes and homeworks for him. “Come in first. My parents said its rude to let people stand for long outside.” He said and walked inside while leaving the door opened. I hold the door handle before it completely closes. “Well, excuse me then.” I said as I stepped in. The house was clean. Their interior was mostly white with a little bit of beige. We got in to the living room and he told me to sit down on the sofa. He asked me if I wanted amything and I just told him that water’s fine. When he got back from the kitchen, he was holding a cup of water and then he put it down the coffee table. “Thank you.” I took the water and took a sip. “By the way, where are your parents?” “Working late.” He answered shortly and took a sit next to me. “Give me the notes.” He said and extended his hands. “Oh!” I quicly took it out of my bag and gave it to him. “There’s a lot to do. Can I ask you if there is anything I don’t understand?” “Yes, sure you can ask me.” After that, he flipped through the notes in silence. I thought that I should at least ask about his health. “Are you feeling better now?” “Hmm. I’ll go to school tomorrow.” “Okay then see you tomorrow at school. I’ll go home now. I still have things to do.” “Where do you live? I’ll walk ypu to the bus stop.” “There’s no need for that. I live downstairs.” He looked at me as if I was lying. I chuckled at the wasy he was looking at me. He looked like a polar bear at that moment. I stood up and picked up my bag. “Bye, see you tomorrow.” I walked out of his home and went to my home. The next day he did go to school. We didn’t greet each other and continued living each other’s lives. After school, I was the last to leave again. I got to the bus stop and I saw him there. “This stop is Advance Apartment Building. If this is your stop, please go to the nearest door for you and wait for the door to open.” The bus announcement disturbed me from my trip down memory lane. I went near the door and got off when the stopped and the doors opened. I walk up to the apartment and reached home. My mom was seating in the living room and watching TV. “You’re home. Go get changed and have dinner.” I did as she said and after dinner I was very tired that I felt like I would sleep right away. I went to my room and rested and decided to rest up but a sudden thought flashed through my mind. In one week time, the Summer Split would start. That thought bugged me for the whole night and I ended up staying late for overthinking. I woke up the next day feeling not so good. I tried to lifted my spirits and consoled myself that there was still a week left. I would worry about it again by then. When I got to the office, I had some time to look around and I notice that the table beside me was still empty. The person working there must be running late, I thought to myself. A minute later, a girl suddenly sat down quickly. She was catching her breath, sne must’ve been in a hurry to not be late. She noticed my stare and looked at me. “Hello. You must be new here. I’m Tammy.” She extended her hands for a handshake. I took it and shook and said my name. “Right it was your first day yesterday. I didn’t get to talk to you either. You were looking busy. Architect Hanna must’ve given you a task.” “Yes, she did. After I went out of her office, I didn’t even get to greet you and our other colleagues because I was already fixated at my task.” “It’s fine every one is busy here. You might’ve ended up disturbing them anyways. Its good to just focus on your task. You’ll get plenty of chances to greet them.” She patted my shoulder and did her work. I smiled to myself because I felt like it was a good choice to apply here and lucky to get hired. I had to work hard so I could prove that Arcitect Hanna didn’t made a wrong decision in hiring me.
