The Shadow pulsed within him, a relentless force urging him forward, pushing him towards the next step in his journey. The Shadow ever listening through its unnumbered sources told Rael of an Azure Sky fortress nestled deep in the mountains, where several high-ranking leaders had gathered to plot his demise. It was perfect. They had come to him, gathered in one place like lambs to the slaughter. He felt the weight of the Shadow Edge against his side, its dark energy pulsing in sync with his heartbeat. With every step, the Hydra Armor—made from the hide of the monstrous creature he had defeated—seemed to meld further with his body, amplifying his power, hardening his resolve. He was no longer just Rael Phaze; he was the Elemental Absolute. The fortress loomed ahead, perched on a cliffside like some forgotten relic of a kingdom long past. The Azure Sky had fortified it with walls of stone and steel, but Rael knew it wouldn’t matter. No wall, no barrier, no army could stop him now. As Rael approached the gates, a gust of wind sent the guards into a sudden panic. They knew who was coming, but they didn’t know just how much trouble they were in. From atop the battlements, Rael could sense them: four high-ranking Azure Sky leaders, all terrified, their auras flickering with desperation and fear. Among them was their most powerful magi, Xandria Oloris, a master of dark magic and elemental manipulation. A hypocrite in his opinion since the Azure Sky’s creed is to stand against dark magic. Or at least that is their claim. She was the one they believed would stop him. “She’s the one you need to watch,” the Shadow whispered in his mind. “She’ll stop at nothing to win.” Rael smiled to himself. Good. He wasn’t interested in an easy fight. The gates creaked open, and Rael strode in as if he owned the place. The air crackled with tension as mercenaries and soldiers lined up, swords drawn and magic at the ready. Xandria’s voice echoed through the courtyard, cold and commanding. “Rael Phaze! You’ve gone far enough. This ends now!” Rael’s grin widened. “Oh, sweetheart, you have no idea what’s about to happen.” He raised a hand, and the ground beneath the fortress shook violently as his Elemental Blitz materialized around him. The wolves of shadow, fire, and lightning tore through the air, their howls echoing like a storm of death. They crashed into the soldiers, ripping them apart with savage efficiency. Blood sprayed across the walls, and the courtyard became a chaotic battlefield in an instant. Rael moved through it all like a force of nature, his sword cutting down anyone foolish enough to get in his way. Xandria watched from atop the fortress steps, her face twisted in fury. “Pathetic,” Rael muttered as he drove the Shadow Edge through another mercenary’s chest. “You should’ve stayed home.” With a flick of his wrist, he sent a wave of shadow energy crashing into a line of mages, blasting them into pieces. He was done toying with them. It was time to end this. But before he could strike at Xandria, she raised her hands, dark energy swirling around her as she began to chant. The air grew thick with power, and the remaining Azure Sky leaders—pale with fear—stood rooted in place. Xandria’s voice rang out, filled with dark intent. “I summon you, ancient one! From the depths of the Rift, I call upon your power!” Rael’s eyes narrowed. Rift magic. Demons. She was desperate enough to call on those abominations? The Shadow within him roared in anger, hissing its displeasure. Demons were a violation of nature, twisted, foul things that corrupted everything they touched. The courtyard filled with a hellish glow as a portal opened behind Xandria, its edges crackling with flame and shadow. From it emerged a towering creature, all claws, teeth, and writhing black tendrils, its body pulsating with the dark power of the Rift. It fused with Xandria, her body transforming into something monstrous, her eyes glowing with malevolent fire. “Now, Rael,” the demon-possessed Xandria sneered, her voice distorted, “we will see who is truly powerful!” Rael stood his ground, his hand tightening on the hilt of the Shadow Edge. “You just made this personal.” The battle was titanic. Xandria, infused with the demon’s power, launched wave after wave of dark fire, shadow, and lightning at him. She didn't care about her fellow leaders or the remains of their force. They all died screaming, but Rael was faster. His Prismatic Cognition allowed him to see the patterns of her magic before they formed, letting him dodge and counter her attacks with ease. At one point, the demon’s claws came within inches of his throat, but Rael parried the blow with the Shadow Edge, driving the blade deep into one of the demon’s tendrils. The creature screeched in agony, but it wasn’t enough to stop it. Rael’s power surged, the air around him crackling with raw elemental energy. He raised his hand, summoning a storm of black lightning and fire, and hurled it toward the demon-possessed Xandria with all his might. The impact was cataclysmic. The fortress walls crumbled, and the very ground shook as Rael’s magic tore through the demon, ripping it from Xandria’s body and sending it screaming back into the Rift. The portal snapped shut with a thunderous crack, leaving only silence in its wake. Rael stood amidst the ruins, his breath steady despite the chaos. He looked down at the charred remains of Xandria, her body twisted and broken, her eyes wide with disbelief. “Demons,” Rael spat, his voice cold. “You should’ve known better.” With a final roar of victory, Rael unleashed a shockwave of elemental energy that caused the ground to tremble, sending cracks through the earth. The fortress, once a stronghold of the Azure Sky, was now nothing more than a ruin. Rael turned and walked away from the destruction, his armor gleaming in the dying light of the day. He wasn’t done. Not by a long shot. The world would know his name, and it would tremble.
